I'm annoyed because I could get my jab tomorrow but now I can't. I like the idea of "driveby" jabbing. I usually have my arm out the window of the ute so I just have to cruise past the local medical centre like it was a Maccas. Job / jab done.
They are actually talking about doing that after the 48 hour hiatus.
48 hours to get the setup right and you should be all go
This is the stuff that kills me, why wasn't that in place ALREADY? Work with the assumption that there will be more lockdowns and enable those delivering them to work with both models.
This is why people complain about this governments ability to deliver. They rely on luck and are reactive instead of proactive. Comedy hour stuff.
Why should we be surprised? The bureaucracy is exactly how we think it is. Lots of people too afraid to do anything for fear of drawing attention to themselves
Never have had to work in real jobs and afraid to do anything too unpopular in case it loses votes. That's why are Covid annoucemnets are 30mins of arse covering before telling people the necessary details.
I'm not even talking about the government. Once they make a decision to do something the bureaucracy will make sure it takes so long to action it will often be years before things happen. And by then another lot is in charge and they want to reassess the plan of action. And the merry go round goes on

Uggg so you were booked for a jab and now have to rebook? Means back down the list i presume.
Not sure how it will pan out actually. They might shift everything by a couple of days or they might make rebookings. Can't talk to anyone so will have to see.
It is a bit fucked that the jab centres are so far apart. It was North Shore or Wellsford for me. Neither is convenient and Warkworth / Snells beach/ Matakana are the major population bases. Where did you go @Tim ?

images like this are both awesomely powerful, and scary
then we have this, the different time frames for Auckland, but borders open for spread until then??

@billy-tell yea fun as watching nz in lockdown...what a dumb comment
Not as fun as not getting home for my dads 70th. Or my cousins funeral. FFS as a kiwi citizen I’m cut off from my own country. I’m fully vaccinated but to come home, to my country, I’d have to go on a waiting list, to spend 2 weeks in a hotel. And not sure I can bring the wife, coz she’s not a nz citizen. How long does is this expected to go on for? So yeah I would find it ironic that after shutting nz off to its citizens the virus ends up taking hold anyway.
Do you not read the news mate? They laid out the plan for next year a few days ago.
If people like you had your way, then there'd be plenty of people whose dad's 70th would be dad's funeral instead.what a fucking dick comment. uppercut yourself
Yeah it was a dick comment, I shouldn't have put it that way.
Both things are true though - with no quarantine we would have had widespread community cases and old people would have been dying. And the government did announce (fucking finally) a plan of some sort for opening borders and reducing quarantine next year. -
@taniwharugby We had the same issue - the amount of people who loaded up and took off for the coast upon hearing we'd be going into lockdown was amazing. Good way to potentially widen the spread too.
I'm not quite sure why "leaders" would be angry when anyone with a functioning cerebral cortex could've foreseen that outcome.

So you don't think things were the same when Key was in power? He had unprecedented power and didn't do a hell of a lot with it. And I voted for him! @antipodean assume it is anger because nothing was put in place to prevent it happening, given it happened all the other times, and was gonna happen this time

I have the same fear in Australia. The "plan" is one thing, but when/if vaccination levels hit that target, outbreaks are still going to happen, and it looks for all money like the gameplan we are seeing today will be followed all over again.
People are not allowed to die of/with Covid in Australasia. Which sounds way harsher than what i actually mean. This virus isn't going away. You cannot vaccinate yourself to zero covid. And no matter how much they say it, our governments are working towards zero covid again.
we, who would like a different approach, don't actually want old people to die. Even though i personally believe lots will anyway.

Uggg so you were booked for a jab and now have to rebook? Means back down the list i presume. I only booked yesterday for early Sept and the wife rang our local an hour later and got mid September.
Drive by jabbing would be good!
I'm in my 30's but was able to score a last-minute first jab because a member of my wife's extended family works at a vaccination centre and called us saying they had some spares that were otherwise going to be thrown out, but we had to come in straight away. Apparently they are opened in packs of six, and then when they get to the end of the day, they sometimes have leftovers if people haven't turned up to their appointments. The nurses were saying they had been going to the gym next door and just asking if anyone wanted to get a dose to save from throwing them out. I was genuinely impressed by how much the nurses cared about making sure there was no wastage at the end of a 12 hour day.
What shits me about the whole vaccine rollout is seeing schemes up north of some providers having to offer the chance to win $500 if you get vaccinated (can't find the link but read about it the other day), or community leaders saying that the South Auckland vaccination event should have included bands and free food to get people along, otherwise they wouldn't bother. All the while, a good chunk of the country are patiently waiting to be allowed to get their jabs.
We're a victim of our own success in many ways. If we had have had massive death tolls and long harsh lockdowns like other countries, you could guarantee that some of those on the fence would be pretty keen to get their jabs when they could.

And people get upset when there are blockades and other impingements of their freedoms. How else can you stop the same people dashing to the Bach or to the supermarket everytime a lockdown happens?

And usually the inverse happens to the number of contractors when Labour and National swap around. That was roughly how National worked around their cap last time. (Though that trend hasn't been as strong since Covid - now both numbers have gone up.)

Human nature sucks sometimes. Instead of looking at it as buying time to get the vax as soon as possible, people cling to misguided ideas about vax safety while ignoring the risks of getting really sick. Like dead sick. Until its too late and they start running like the rats on the Titanic

I havent seen anything like that, I do think they need to be going out and setting up Vaccination drives at Maraes, churches etc.
I had mine done at the Northland Indian Association in one of thier temples on Sunday, there was tea and food available after, and my friend told me I should go and have a tea at least as this is seen as respectful to thier culture.
