I distinctly heard Foster say that for them, Ardie is a #8 who can also play #7.
OMG - he seriously said that?
Yup, same as Beaudy shoe horned nto 15, Ardie has been the same for ABs recently and canes too, with Kirifi

They also took journeyman Matt Todd to the last RWC so I wouldn't be too quick to rule out them taking 3 pretty decent 7's to the next world cup.
And, if they picked the team tomorrow and everyone was fit, I'd expect Cane and Ardie to be certainties - and Papalií joining them a very good chance. But, Ardie would be listed as an 8/utility.
At the last RWC Ardie started as a 6, played a game at 8 and only started at 7 in the game vs England.

He certainly did. Pretty sure it must have been in the post match comments after Ardie played 7 vs Fiji.
I posted it on here at the time.

Wonder if the wallabies will start Tupou. He can do a lot more damage against Bower than he can against Big Karl.
True although I suspect they will still feel he will do more attacking damage as the game loosens up, but I agree with your point..lets wait and see

Decent Wobs team. Better than the first week.

- James Slipper (104 Tests)
- Brandon Paenga-Amosa (13 Tests)
- Allan Alaalatoa (47 Tests)
- Darcy Swain (4 Tests)
- Matt Philip (13 Tests)
Right now probably our best scrummaging tight 5.
- Lachlan Swinton (2 Tests)
- Michael Hooper (c) (109 Tests)
- Rob Valetini (8 Tests)
Interesting - Wilson was a bit quiet last week. Obviously trying to bring a bit of an edge with Swinton.
- Tate McDermott (6 Tests)
- Noah Lolesio (6 Tests)
Essentially: ain't broke, don't fix it.
- Matt To’omua (58 Tests)
- Hunter Paisami (10 Tests)
Really can't agree with this - while Paisami had some poor moments last week he also had some great ones, and he IS NOT A FUCKING 13. Ikitau should feel hard done by. Paisami marking Ioane is going to give the Kiwi the outside shoulder he needs.
- Marika Koroibete (37 Tests)
- Andrew Kellaway (3 Tests)
- Tom Banks (15 Tests)
Pretty much as expected, as is the bench.
-
Attacking wise the AB team looks good but defensively is does have an unknown quality to it.

- Ardie Savea (51)
- Aaron Smith (100)
- Richie Mo’unga (25)
- Sevu Reece (11)
- David Havili (6)
- Rieko Ioane (38)
- Will Jordan (5)
- Damian McKenzie (31)
- Samisoni Taukei’aho (2)
- Karl Tu’inukuafe (19)
- Angus Ta’avao (17)
- Scott Barrett (42)
- Luke Jacobson (6)
- TJ Perenara (69)
- Beauden Barrett (92)
- Jordie Barrett (26)
That's a shit team.
The loosies are close to being good, and our second row could be good if they can wind back the years.
Smith is world class and best in the world in my opinion.
Beyond that though, the front row is average (Taylor looks fucking tired and miles off his best), our 10 is yet to stamp his mark, the midfilders hardly know each other, and the back three is a huge bet that they'll play to their strengths and not constantly miss tackles and give turnovers.
We look really really fucking light in the backs with one weapon (Ioane) and too many playmakers (RM, DH, Dmac, BB).
There is no centre cover in that team either, I assume Reece, Havili or Jordie have to fill in if Ioane gets injured in the first minute.
You've said what's wrong, what would you do different?

@nta Yeah, Toomua hasn't done enough to force Paisami out of his best position and Ikitau out of the team entirely.
I really like having Ikitau's left boot available and he's far more solid in defense.
Our pack looks stronger IMO. Key will be Swinton keeping his edge controlled but with plenty of more experienced heads around him I don't think it will be an issue.

If Swinton hasn't learned from the last red card, well... fuck...
Toomua injected some decent things in the last quarter of Bledv1 but not sure it was worth disrupting the midfield, particularly as the ABs were forced to disrupt theirs.

@stargazer Sounds like we'll be playing SA in Australia.
Always going to be the case as soon as NSW covid cases exploded, sadly. That's four odd months in hotels for the ABs
