Yep, exactly. Stargazer, I expect you are in a small group (perhaps with other users like Duluth) that follow all these seperate accounts.
You want to advertise to a wider audience, in a sense advertising to you is a waste of time as you were already going to watch and know when it starts.
If they don't spend any cash on TV/print/more general audience wherever they are, then the casual fan is unaware, and you certainly aren't going to get the next generation.
It's a slow death.
Haha, yes, I may not post on social media (I'm not social on social media ), but I follow all relevant accounts on social media.
Twitter is easy, I just follow a few people's "lists" of rugby or sports accounts; I have a few lists of NPC accounts, SR accounts etc. Unfortunately, fewer and fewer rugby teams/unions themselves use Twitter.
Facebook and Instagram are more difficult to follow, especially since Facebook disabled customised friends lists where you could categorise pages you follow. Instagram, I usually only actively go there to check specific pages, because the feed with posts can't be categorised in lists, as far as I know, so it's just one big stream of posts. I hate it.
I agree about advertising outside social media, both on (free to air) tv and Sky Sport, but that's probably indeed - as @Duluth says - because of the Olympics. At least, I hope it is. I can't speak of online advertising, because I use ad blockers. Local advertising (signs) probably varies, and depends on unions. I think there's a big difference between unions generally. There may be a financial reason for that. It's expensive.
I may post something later today on the more relevant thread: The future of NZ Rugby

NPC coverage is dying fast. I don't think the NZ Herald has a single article on the matches. The other NZ media outlets are down on last years coverage too.
Hopefully that's just because of resources being used to cover the Olympics and it will get better.. I have my doubtsStuff has reasonably good coverage. I've found a "match report" on each of the weekend's games and found them easily.
The Herald is a different matter. They seem to publish news about NPC teams on their regional papers' websites, not on their main one. How NZH's website has been voted "Website of the Year" is beyond me. It's terribly difficult to find news if it has been published at all. Having said that, after a bit of searching, I found match previews and/or reports about several games. I haven't tried to find them for each game (I couldn't be bothered), but doubt they've published about each game.
I'm convinced the lack of rugby writing is directly caused by sports journos losing their job the last few years. The same has happened to regional news reporters, although some of the few remaining regional journos still try their best to cover sports (at least, that's what I've noticed in Hawke's Bay media).

Taranaki at $4.33 to win the Championship - good value?
Tempting. I see that tab has them 3rd favourites behind Otago & NH?
I think Otago are little overrated.. I'm not convinced by their pack.
NH are the big threat, despite a poor start. They should be able to beat up most other 2nd div sides and they have a good 9 & 10 by NPC standards

I am gutted by the awful deterioration in the quality of the NZ Herald which has become a PR bulletin board and the attitudes of several unions who make no effort to inform and attract both devoted and potential fans. It all seems money and ideology driven to me. The NZRU needs to address this with the media the stakeholders and their Unions or the game will continue to slowly die in my view.
This is all made worse by the awful clickbait articles and writers promoted by Rugby pass and Stuff. Get people who are passionate supporters of the game to write with emotion and passion and not push opiniated waffle designed to draw emotions good and bad from the clickbait headlines.
Just look at Matty Johns and colleagues who do a wonderful job of promoting league and drawing out player personalities. Fantastic viewing. And they get a few days to build stories and fan interest when teams are named every Tuesday. Naming the teams on Saturday for first round of NPC Sunday is an absolute disgrace. The media people at those unions should be given ultimatums by NZRU to tidy up their act in my view. -

How many times do these clowns need to be told it would be nice to hear what the questions are they're answering?

Depends if they get that same ref/TMO combo every week.
Yep, still smarting from loss on Saturday, stupidly watched extended highlights as well and wound myself up even more.

@bovidae well we missed 39 apparently, so by my estimation based on how little ball we had, I'd say we made 2 out of 3 tackles (dont think there are stats pages anymore?)...and far be it for me to defend Hawkins, but he is a tough little buggar who never shies away from his defensive work, just got this one very wrong.
