Was in the members lounge for this game, and the question throughout was 'Why aren't they giving Woodward the kicks?'

I suppose there is the politics of trying to get one of your guys into the All Blacks, but surely your best kicker should kick? No Upper Hutt bias here of course but Woodward is the better kicker.

Its very strange this. Also get Woodward to take the line kicking as well. Barrett seems to have gone to the pack in this regard. His line kicking even with no wind makes little distance now. Continuing with him as a kicker does his AB chances no good at all

Woodward is also coming into some very good form now too. So select him at FB and let him do all of the line and goal kicking. Esp including when the team is hard on defense where Barrett is lucky if he gets beyond the 22

That was a game the Canes should have one. Woodward should persist with the kicking duties from now on. Barrett is far too consistent and he is preventing us from winning the big games. Brilliant around the field and was far superior to Cruden on the night in that aspect but his kicking is shoddy.

In regards to changes for the Lions I would probably bring in Abbott and Laumape to add a bit of physicality to the side against a big Lions team.

My starting XV for Lions:

1. Reggie Goodes

2. Dane Coles

3. Jeff Toomaga Allen

4. Mark Abbott

5. Michael Fatialofa

6. Brad Shields

7. Ardie Savea

8. Victor Vito

9. TJ Perenara

10. Beauden Barrett

11. Julian Savea

12. Ngani Laumape (Comes in for Aso who looked injured on Sat)

13. Matt Proctor

14. Cory Jane

15. Jason Woodward

Reserves: 16. Motu Matu'u 17. Chris Eves 18. Ben May 19. Vaea Fifita 20. Blade Thomson 21. Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi 22. James Marshall 23. Vince Tavae Aso

You know Rennie seems to have his plusses and minuses as a super XV coach.

His weakness is discerning that a player is a dud. Sometimes he wears rose tinted glasses towards some players and he has them on towards Marshall or he wouldn't have started.

His strength is player development and raw coaching skills. Can you remember just how shite and lost Cruden was in the Canes number 10 jersey? Now he is arguably the best 10 in the comp. (I did say arguably so Barrett fans can count to ten).

If Rennie ever became AB coach I would be tempted to make him work with a selection panel so he didn't put pet project players into the team.

Proctor does well in attack but his positioning in defense looks suspect. He also missed a vital tackle on Tamanivalu for the first Chiefs try. I would go with Laumape and Aso.

To be fair if any four of Halaholo, Aso, Proctor, Laumape took the field I wouldn't be too displeased. They've all been fairly solid this year without doing anything overly flashy. I hope the competition between all four continues to keep those standards high.

I would like to see Woodward retain his spot at Fullback. He played very well against the Chiefs (apart from the last second fumble). Hes really starting to come into his own at the back. I suppose a bit of game time and momentum has helped with that.

Seems a bit rough to single him out for this - you can say the same about every NZ Super coach.

Marshall got a start because the Chiefs worry about attrition, they've always got one hooker injured it seems, and Rennie likes to have squad players be ready to contribute when needed - which served them well the two years they won when they lost star midfielders two years in a row in the finals.

Rubbish he offers very little but an individual threat. He consistently fails to drive and control a game. He had all the ball in the second half and failed to fire his backline at all apart from a couple of individual bits of brilliance. Savea is starting to coming back into form but Beauden will not set up much for him. If Cruden was playing 10 for the Hurricanes they would have buried the Chiefs by 10 or 20 points with their forward dominance in the last 30 minutes and the whole hurricanes backline would be being talked up as All Black contenders

The "slight back twinge" is pretty strange along with obviously needing the trainers help to walk from the field and that nasty looking limp

Come on, Rennie pulled a fast one and if he'd been Australian or South African there'd be cries of outrage

Rennie on Darcy's show after 4pm. Apparently he's pretty angry and ready to say so.

Condone it not, you've got to admit it all looks pretty suspect, well Dane Coles thought so and I'd take his version of it over any on here

Jogging to the breakdown, getting talked to by 2 trainers and then limping off with a trainer as a crutch - yeah naaa
