@stargazer I've seen almost no press coverage, advertising, social media content, or other forms of promotion for the NPC. My parents (who watch almost any rugby) didn't even know it started this weekend.
The opening game is a near bottom of the 2nd division clash. It's a poor effort from NZ Rugby, as usual for the NPC.

@tim I don't no what your expectations are, but I've seen plenty on Twitter and Facebook, esp this last week. Mostly FPC before that.
Auckland not playing Harbour is a result of Harbour being relegated and the way the crossover games are picked each year. Nothing NZR can do about that.

yeah, i havent seen much, didn't click it was starting this week until i saw the match thread and then the team announcements yesterday, was hoping there was more in NZ

Again, I've seen plenty of promotion of NPC games on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram from most provincial unions and NZR.
Some provinces are more active than others, but if you haven't seen much promotion of games, you're not following the right accounts, or you're not on all major social media platforms.
The main problem is that some unions choose to only use one social media platform (for example, only Facebook). If you happen to be someone who's not on Facebook, but has an instagram account, you may miss out on team news.

yes, the best kind of marketing, the one where the consumer has to go looking for it, I would have thought my team, the NPC and NZR socials was a good start as far as what to follow.
I think i just have a different expectation living in Aus, the spectacle they build around the major sports, is just more, what ive seen of the start of the NPC reminds me of what RA does for super rugby...more of a "if you were interested you would know we're starting" approach

Yep, exactly. Stargazer, I expect you are in a small group (perhaps with other users like Duluth) that follow all these seperate accounts.
You want to advertise to a wider audience, in a sense advertising to you is a waste of time as you were already going to watch and know when it starts.
If they don't spend any cash on TV/print/more general audience wherever they are, then the casual fan is unaware, and you certainly aren't going to get the next generation.
It's a slow death.
