@kiwimurph And a PB, too!
A new national record too I think. Pleased to see De Grasse win that elusive Olympic/World champs gold.
Pretty exciting race. Well done to the yanks that came 2nd and 3rd, and the 17yo kid who came 4th

Why don’t they get the men and women to throw the same hammer weight?
Because the women's distances would be tiny (not even making it out of the throws cage at lower levels), and injury risk very high.
Men's shot and hammer are both 7.26kg vs women's 4kg.
Men's discus 2kg vs women's 1kg, but crucially men's is much wider diameter as well. Most women's hands couldn't spin a discus at all.
Javelin is closer, 800g men's and women's 600g.
BTW who is that in your avatar?!
Time for a transition.

Bit of a boil over in the women’s basketball with France beating Spain in the QFs in a close game. Spain with a costly turnover near the end.
Japan to play France. Japan are fun to watch. Their guards are small, quick and highly skilled.
Opals got smashed by the US and so the Americans will take on Slovenia. Slovenia surprised China today who have played very well these Olympics. .

In throws training back in the day we used to mess around with the women's implements for fun, and weirdly it was so easy to injure yourself trying to absolutely send it, as all your timing goes to sh1t.

De Grasse wins the 200m final!
Jeez what happened to the American kid? He jogged the last 40m of his heat and still hit 20.02. Thought he could have easily done it.

and Liti got 5th which is bloody good. A very strong field!
ahem.
He said in a news article that getting top 5, with the amount of doping that goes on, was his goal. He reckons if there was no doping he’d be top.

@machpants shots fired! poor leadership, corruption, and shitty systems by the Int weightlifting association has already cost them spots at this Olympics with fewer weight classes. I think it's under genuine threat of being cut in the future if they can't sort their shit out.

@nostrildamus Gaby on the tee 11.03am NZ time
Lydia Ko and co off just after 1.30pm

German dude wins 10km swim. He also won bronze in the pool (1500m). I think that’s the first time someone has done that at the same games.
Good effort by the Australian Bol in the 800m. Poor Aus steeplechase woman was running final on her birthday and blew out her Achilles. Fond memories of that one.

I would only finish that race if there was a current in the right direction.
