But the woman, amazing how many records were set in the mid-late 80's and have never been broken since...1987/1988 seems especially to have been the height of the drug i mean track and field program..

Women's 400m WR is held by a, checks notes, East German from 1985. Ridiculous that is still an official record.
There’s a few track and field records from the 70s and 80s from the Eastern Block that are still current today.
It's not just the Eastern Block countries, but that era, and into the 1990s. Randy Barnes, the US shot putter was juiced and his WR from 1990 was only broken this year by Crowser.

Although they do the same at every other sport too so I guess you can't really call it 'moneyball'. Not sure what the rest of the schedule is like but they're holding onto their lead at the top of the leaderboard pretty handily at the moment.
Say what you like about communism, but by god it turns into medals.
Just ask the Germans. East Germany won 35 gold in 1988. Germany currently has 6 I think. They’ve gone from about 12 gold in the pool to 1 bronze.
It did fuck the country doing it. All those resources put to work, but no bread for the people
Actually East Germany had enough food and was the “best” communist country by some way. East Germans I know always said they had plenty of cash but nothing to buy. But obviously in comparison to the West it was a complete joke. Just look at cars. The West had Mercedes, BMW, Audi, VW etc. The East had…the Trabant… And of course there was the small matter of being spied on all the time and machine gunned if they tried to leave.
