Ugo Monye is a fucken moron.
NZ has won the world 7s series more than anyone so why can they not convert that to the Olympics?
Oh yeah it's the Olympics 7s series is it you dick?
Was that the clown commentating? He should get a medal for the achievement of being worse than TJ.
I think the clown is Rupert Cox maybe.

@bones Yeah, but not because of him! (More despite him).
But imagine how shit we would have been if he cut it.

Link to Monye's comments. Prattish stuff since GB missed out of a medal. Good to see that the majority of respondents have unliked them.

What on earth is wrong with that? Apart from population being 5mm now.
Totally fair for me.

Laidlaw's team for the final highlighted his lack of ambition. Time for a cleanout now with some young blood.
I don’t begrudge Laidlaw going with some of the faithful to the Olympics, but now will provide an opportunity for a refresh.
The question for me was that the best available squad? It's inexplicable that Webber kept getting starts after making so many errors in every game.
Did Webber average at least a strip per game? The one that led to Fiji's first try got us off to the worst possible start

Well done NZ Sevens. Great effort and silver well deserved. Fiji brought so much pressure to bear we were always up against it. But the players still threw themselves about throughout.
Curry was brilliant. Most players had their moments during the 6 matches.
I was surprised MGB did not start ahead of Webber. He was underutilised just like Warbrick. But those are my only quibbles. Thanks for the great memories guys. Hope the girls go one better now. -

He was rubbish all tournament how he kept starting is beyond me everything he did cost turnovers and as for breaking the line he would struggle to break the skin of a rice pudding.

Because NZ and Fiji have always battled it out at the top of the tree in 7's, since fucken day dot.
Because why would 15's success translate to 7's success.
Because why would success in the World Series (the clue being series) translate to a one off tournament (where the game of 7's is even more prone to fluctuations in form).
Because why the fuck is silver not a success (and for a bit of whataboutery, population of GB is 66m).

@majorrage Fiji winning Olympic Gold is hardly a surprise for anyone who follows 7s. NZ not really the force in 7s they once were. 15s and 7s increasingly different games. A Silver by this squad was a very good result in an increasingly competitive sport.

If one was going to be super critical, the only point would be that coming into the Olympics, NZ had won three of the six tournaments in the 2020 series. They finished 2nd and 3rd in two of the other three, so there was form there.
Only South Africa had won that many tournaments in the first six of a series in the last 5 years, and that was back in 2017 when they won the whole thing and finished way out in front of every other side.
So there was “form” but given what transpired afterwards with the rest of the series being cancelled etc, it’s quite the reach.
Fiji have been known, even when they won the series in 2019 to go from winning a tournament to finishing 5th, to coming 2nd or 3rd and then winning. The volatility in results amongst the top teams has been high for quite some time.

I actually have pre-game nerves! Don't usually have that with sevens!
Was more nervous for the SF.
We're guaranteed silver. I'm cool with that.
Just further to this, I think the prospect of finishing nowhere, as opposed to a guarantee of at least a silver medal and possibility of gold, was more frightening .
