I've just been watching those swimming finals. Small margins amongst the top swimmers. The Russian 100 m backstroker lost out to his compatriot by messing up his final stroke and touch.
Except for Peaty
5th fastest time ever, he holds the fastest 16 times.

By the 'subjective measurement' criteria a bunch of the combat sports would be out since they're decided based on judges scoring.
The triple jump doesn't award points for style but will just dq you if you don't follow the proper form. Likewise all the swimming events mandate a style.
The ref in sevens awards points for failing to follow the right forms (eg penalty try against South Korea for deliberate knock down).
Nothing at the olympics is easy. In fact, if the field is too small, they reduce the number of medals (eg no 3rd place medal awarded).

There are four different strokes. The fact that swimming is low impact means that competitors can recover relatively quickly and compete in multiple events.

i need an explanation why triple jump is even a thing. I mean have you even seen anyone jump like that in 'real life'

The women's triple jump was introduced into the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.[5]

Actually there is some cool hostory around events, poles were left next to streams etc in Nth Europe, so that's where pole vault came from. Originally included distance, which is still competed in Holland - looks well cool!
It's a traditional sport in the province of Friesland in the Netherlands (not Holland!). It's called fierljeppen.

He did a bloody good job until then. Was a big difference having a commentator that had done their homework and was able to think on their feet.
The general feed commentary has been rubbish (that includes TJ)
