Conway flicks it to mid on. Soft wicket after all that hard work to get to 54 in very tricky conditions. And they are going off for bad light.
Stumps. 101-2. NZ's day but Conway's dismissal slightly takes the edge off it.
3 days to go. Lots of rain tomorrow. All three results possible but draw looks most likely IMHO.
Yeah, agreed. Frustrating as all hell, after 3 weeks of great weather, to get a week of dogshit and the long range forecast, excellent again for month after this week. Sods law.
If there's two days play left (I think there is), then I think we have a chance. It's tough going out there, but we've GOT To get a lead. A lead of 50/60 will be fantastic in these conditions, just as a shortfall of 50 will push things heavily in India's favour.
The most frustrating thing though throughout has been the comm's. It's basically been Indian coverage with a bit of Doull. And all of the talk of great test matches over the years have ALL been about India, Australia and England. I think the commentators would regularly go for 30 odd minutes without even really mentioning New Zealand. I killed the TV after Ashwin started and one of the comm's said "Conway will have never faced a bowler as good as Ashwin".
Ok dickhead, he's face all NZ Bowlers I'm sure, as well as Broad, Anderson etc ... but yeah, he's never faced a decent bowler.
Morons.
Yep, I've been watching on mute once it became clear that this was really supposed to be a celebration of Indian cricket. There was a brief discussions between Nasser and Doully about NZ's current strength at senior level, but it quickly turned into a compare and contrast of how strong India are always at U19 level too.

Come on Wags, bowl like someone just kicked your cat
Perfect man to bring on
I'd like him to give them a bit of the short stuff as well, just to force them back in the crease. Who needs swashbuckling stroke play? This test cricket is compelling
I don't agree. That would leak some runs. I reckon we are doing very well starving them of runs. Even if we aren't taking wickets we are frustrating the hell out of them and they aren't progressing their score.
Love the short stuff. Love Wags π
Damo read the post. You specifically said that Wags bowling short stuff would leak runs, ie not a good idea. Case dismissed
Nah, the comment which has forever sullied my reputation amongst all who saw was that I allegedly suggested Kyle Jamieson be dropped ahead of Matt Henry.
My reputation can never recover from that slight.

Haha well to be fair I was kinda boozed, that is an absolute defence on the Fern is it not? Especially on a match thread.

Nasser Hussain is good value as a commentator. Enjoy his work.
He is the best. Really like Nasser. My favourite was he called out Allan Border for the sledging that went on when he was captain. Great stuff when itβs live commentary. Allan said nothing from memory.

Here's what the Norwegians have to say for Southampton.
Anything less than 1mm per hour is just misty drizzle and could easily not eventuate or just be occasional showers.
Probably take some time to get the field ready when it stops, so I'd say at best we'll get 3 hours today - but, we could easily get nothing.

Optimistic. This from Cric Info
There's an expectation the match officials may take a call quickly this morning, rather than wait the entire afternoon." All of which tells you there's scant optimism for getting on the field today.

Early night tonight guys. No chance of play at all.

Two full days is enough time for us to get a result, but maybe not India unless they really roll through us for 50 odd. We could in theory bat a day and end up with a lead of 150ish, then put them in on the final day and have a fair old crack at them.
-
I think this article by Aussie arse kissing Pom Mark Nicholas sums up the coverage so far absolutely perfect.
Waxing lyrical about the Indian player consistently, disappointment when they get out, many an anecdote about pretty much so all teams that play the game apart from NZ, and then a couple of lines dropped in to mention the opposition (who are arguably ahead in this test).

Maybe my most hated commentator in any sport, and I hate a lot of commentators.
Just a consistently shocking level of obsequiousness, constantly sucking aussie cock.

I reckon we need to take a few risks. Try to score a quick 220 in a couple of sessions.
There isn't really that much risk to us of losing. Let's say we go too hard and get rolled for 50 more.
So we are then 60 behind with 5 and a half sessions to play. India will want to score at least another 240 to set us 300 to win in a day or just under. Doesn't seem very likely to me that they can do this or would even try. I don't see many credible paths to a defeat, but I can see a credible path to victory.

They've got to move forward with a week or 8 days to finish this format-saving WTC concept. Timeless tests were once the norm.
Special playing conditions for the final would be universally embraced and removes test cricket's only real Achilles heel.A timeless test to decide the final would be awesome. Nowhere to hide for either team, the ultimate test.

Was contemplating we declare at our current score, and force them to set a target.
I kind of think India would be more scared of loaingthan we are.

Not if it's only used to counter the weather stopping play. For example, they've factored in 1 extra day, why not factor in 2 or 3. If no rain, then just use the original 5 days
