    Class performance.

A test series win in England is nothing to sneeze at.

    Bring on the Final.

Definitely going to wear the Ilford 2nd XI t-shirt tomorrow at work - fuck being gracious in victory, the way the Poms have gone on and on rubbing in the CWC final has irked me a great deal.

A comprehensive drubbing and probably would have been the second one if not for the weather. Enjoy the moment but please don’t become that which you rightly despise.

What we’d give for a guy like Chris Cairns to address the imbalance in the team currently……

If only there were a hard hitting all rounder with big match temperament and a Kiwi passport in the UK at the moment...

Or a hard hitting all-rounder with a big match temperament and a Kiwi passport who's actually eligible for us and has a good test batting record (but needs to improve his bowling average)....

True. What’s the Neesh up to ?

Throwing darts at a board that has Tim Southee's face on it?

There’s obviously a joke I’m missing, can you elaborate ?

    What he said…. 🤨

I'm alluding to a division in the team Southee apparently created by virtue of his swordsman antics inc the infamous in-flight hook-up. A group of players were upset at how his behaviour portrayed the team and Neesham was apparently front and centre.

    Grain of salt.

Wasn't that on the way to the 2011 CWC? Neesham was years away from debut. The Taylor/McCullum saga is more recent than that.

@rotated was more recent than that. The airplane tryst was just one example of a behavioral legacy.

A few minor changes for the final.

India and New Zealand will be crowned joint winners of the inaugural World Test Championship in case the final ends in a draw or a tie, the ICC confirmed on Friday. And while there is a reserve day, it will come into play only if time lost during the five regular days - June 18 to 22 - is not made up on those days. The ICC has also announced that the match will be played using Grade 1 Dukes balls.

    New changes to be implemented
The final will be played with the recent changes to international playing conditions implemented - they are in effect in the ongoing Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka series too.
The third umpire will automatically review all calls of short runs by on-field umpires and communicate the decision to the field umpire before the next ball is bowled.
Before reviewing an lbw decision, the fielding captain or the dismissed batter can check with the on-field umpires whether they thought a genuine attempt was made to play the ball.
For lbw reviews, the height margin of the wicket zone has been lifted to the top of the stumps to ensure the same umpire's call margin around the stumps for both height and width.

Celebrations well deserved but time to get nervous just a little now.

All of our bats have shown some frailty in these tests. Hopefully just down to rust for some.

All in front of us now and time to pick the XI for the final. I have to write this down to get my ducks in a row.

Locked in, No question (9 players).

    Latham
    Conway
    KW
    Taylor
    Nicholls
    Boult
    Southee
    Wagner
    Watling

    So 2 spots for

    CdG
    or Mitchell

    Santner
    or Patel

    Jamieson
    or Henry

3 into 2 doesn't go so decisions are

    Pitch dependent
    4 quicks and an 'all-rounder'?
3 quicks, a spinner and an allrounder?

    Or the oddball
    4 quicks and a spinner

I think we can ignore the last one.

CDG will have the running over Mitchell
    Jamieson over Henry
    and sadly Santner over Patel.

I can see the logic of a spinner if they think the game will go 5 days but if that's the case would rather not Santner.
I am thinking that the decision may come right down to the toss. If India bat first go all in with pace. If we are going to bat first please, please pick Patel.

Poor Latham, from a captain hitting the winning runs to not even in the frame.

About the pitch for the final:

"Pitch preparation for this Test is a little simpler as we are a neutral venue, we are guided by the ICC, but we all want is a good pitch that offers an even contest between the teams."
"For me personally I just want to get something out that has some pace, bounce and carry in the pitch. It can be a hard thing to do in England as the weather doesn't help us most of the time, but the forecast in the build-up is good with a lot of sun, so we are hopeful that we'll get some pace and a hard pitch without over-rolling it and killing it.
