Right at the moment, BJ Watling (37.89) has just the 10th highest batting average of NZ players on this tour.

Behind, Conway, Mitchell, Williamson, Jamieson, Taylor, Nicholls, Young, Latham, and Blundell.

300 up for 4 is good, but as @Donsteppa says we have a long tail so these two need to push on

Yeah Wagner would be 8 out of that lot I think.

Another cross through Santners name if our coach had half a brain.

Of the 25 players Cricinfo lists as current England players only Root and Ollie Robinson have batting averages higher than BJ.

Ben Stokes is only a few decimal places behind.

Which backs up what I said about us being a much better team.

I will admit that some of our guys with inflated records are pretty early in their careers although this doesn’t take away from the fact that England are full of bog standard test cricketers.

We're losing our way a bit now. Our tail is longer than normal. I was hoping to bat all day but that looks unlikely now.

I have a feeling you and your positive attitude are somehow to blame for this.

We’re leading with wickets in hand. Quit complaining.

Okay, I'm going to be a Grumpy Old FluffyBunny... I'm not cool with sponsorship on the white Test-kit.
I don't know why, it just seems wrong.

Seeing the NZ guys with the "anz" - I felt "ugh. yuck"
But then a second later seeing a pom, with whatever they've got - I felt "yeah... nah, fuck, yuck"

Pretty even session. England will be happy to have gotten Ross and Nichols, but they still have some work to do.

We really need these two to knuckle down. There's no rush, just need to bat time. Henry is in next so early wickets next session will bring England right back into it.

Intriguing test so far. Bed time for me, hope to wake up to 80 for Blundell and 80 for Mitchell.

Replying to your own posts is a sure sign of extreme grumpiness and senility

    I am extremely grumpy.
    I wouldn't say senile, but...
    Edit... I had something...

Got to love the English commentators absolutely tearing into the technique of our spin bowler batting at ten.

"I can see both middle and off!"

Average batting so far today. The middle order didn't make the most of their starts. Not sure why Wags was batting at the dizzy heights of 8 ahead of Henry, but Wags quickly solved that one without troubling the scorers.

And now Blundell adds himself to the list of batsmen who made good starts and didn't carry on. Though he was lucky to survive the Poms having a poor keeper early on...
