Definitely NZs day. With 7 in hand we should still be looking good for 400-450.

And Patel will be smiling seeing the part timer pick up a wicket on the second day.

BCs have a huge chance to bat long throughout tomorrow, post a massive score and put this game beyond England. I hope they seize it.

Pitch looks awesome to bat on. We should aim to be no more than 2 down at the close.

    Take a walk mate

It was a good prediction until 4 balls from stumps

500+ is still on I reckon.

It really hinges on Watling and Taylor - the pitch suits Watling if he gets stuck in IMO.

This was a very good performance all things considered - they survived a seriously good spell from Broad in the second session.

Watling is injured. Nicholls and Blundell, yeah

We're going to have an influx of older players. Conway (30), Blundell (30), Young (28). By that time, you know your game well, and just play. Could easily get 6-8 good years out them, giving time to find new talent

Keep an eye on Crawley. Played a few decent knocks in difficult India

    โ€ฆ..and hereโ€™s his scores since being back in England 9, 8, 5, 13, 53, 0, 9, 5, 2, 2, 0.

    Particularly proud of that one...

Keep an eye on Kohli. Played a few decent knocks in difficult india

Did anyone see how Blundells keeping went ? Bloody important with BJs impending departure.

Very good mate. Just really tidy in everything he did. Looked determined to secure the ball with nothing flashy or casual. No technical deficiencies that I could spot. Sleep well mate, our future keeping shouldn't be an issue.

Broad's carrying on after the non catch should be slightly punished only to keep up a message about some respect for umpires. I know he was mostly playing up to the crowd in a very very good spell for him but he's undermining some basic umpiring. The soft signal was key.
Ecb wants new cricketers. Keep quiet about this and the new cricketers will make umpiring a job no one wants to do. Doubtless the ecb will prioritise on field behaviour over off field...
Just a decent mention and a warning or tiny fine would address it adequately. Just some acknowledgement that such behaviour damages grass roots cricket

What an innings from Young. Came in when broad was bowling the best spell of the series and navigated that brilliantly with such poise.

Rossco battled and battled for us. Was ugly as it was determined. Scratched around and just played each ball like it had no bearing on the previous one. Classic experience and determination. Really important knock

We saw the master and the apprentice in 92 run partnership. Nice

It can't be overstated how young, Conway and Ross performed in front of that voracious and enthusiastic crowd. Constant noise throughout. To lose only 2 in the middle of the day under that home town crowd was impressive.

We've established that the ecb are cock smokers of the highest order but by christ the English crowds are amazing!

Doull chuntering on that Broad's 'catch' was a catch. Honestly, I don't care as long as there's clarity and consistency in the decisions.

Doull is one of the better commentators, but for some reason I find him more irritating than most when he gets on his high horse about something.

@donsteppa yeah I think he mis-reads the ditches he chooses to die in. He did some great bowling analysis in the first test, and I generally enjoy him.

What you notice in the English crowd these days is that it bears little relevance to what is happening on the field. They are there to party and party they will. They will of course cheer the edge through the slips if it trickles into the rope and boo if it is stopped (or vice versa when the opposition is batting)

Us "unearthing" Conway a couple of matches out from the WTC final is just such an "Australian" thing to do - especially if you're an Indian. ๐Ÿ™‚

Big series coming up - you'd look at their team list - strong-looking team but a couple of evident weaknesses. "We're going to give this new kid, Labuschagne a crack in the middle order".

There's been heaps of them down the years - we need a new fast bowler...how about this guy Starc, or Hazlewood, or Cummins.

    Production lines.

I hope it bodes well for us.
