Super Rugby Trans Tasman

@stargazer think weāll have to defend better than we did tonight
I'm not too fussed about that eh, tahs haven't had too many issues putting points on other sides.
Would be crazy if we made the final.

Worth noting no NZ team has logged 5 competition points in the last 4 games.
Like I said in another thread, Aussie rugby is BACK.
-
just a general comment about the Trans Ta$man matches-is anyone else getting pissed at the CONTINUAL Australian tactic of lotering around behind a ruck after making a tackle, then wandering into the way of the halfback's potential pass. It happens ALL the time, and is blatant, but commentators are all missing it.
or is it just me, haha -

@wairau yeah it seemed pretty common in this game, they got away with it a bit, Hammington was constantly stepping over and around props.
And here I was thinking you'de be satisfied. When was the last time you had NINE meat pies?!

I am struggling with the officiating in this comp. The treatment of various things differs hugely between matches. TJs and TMOs only seem to look back when the travelling team scores and ignore clear knock ons or other infringements when it is the team playing nearest their home base. Commentators use of 'home team' really irked last night. Reds and Blues send out decoy runners and cleaners constantly and it is OK but they cracked down last night. Converse on head contact and diving head first into breakdown. Anything goes now. Really don't know how players cope at times when so many cards and penalty tries have been flying about recently. It also makes it hard to watch. I think the rule makers need to make things easier for referees and players. Or is the issue simply that our coaches cynically train players in the grey areas of the laws to see what they can get away with.

I hear this a bit but Iām not sure that is as simple as that given where the game is now. Weāve had ELVs and any number of NH and SH versions of different things. Given the size of players and the pro training and conditioning, the hits and collisions are harder than when the game seemed āsimplerā.

this without a doubt happens.

coaches are too quick to circumvent any law adjustments anyway, they end up being pointless within a month, while everyone is just confused until then.

i have to say i was surprised with my new club, we have a forwards consultant who has gone around several clubs in Melbourne. He is blatant with some of the grey...and not so grey...aspects and openly coached them, nothing dangerous mind you, not deliberate collapsed scrums or something. Last time I plays there were dark arts but it was more of a personal thing, you worked out how you wanted to bed the rules yourself
-
@kiwiwomble This happens in any professional sport. I've heard that players get fined in the EPL if they don't tactically foul.
There are tonnes of grey areas in rugby, so it stands to reason that this happens a lot.
Collapsing scrums is a notorious NH tactic to close out a game.
-
@derpus i was with you right until the end. Collapsing scrums is notorious tactic everywhere to close out a game. Pushing the boundaries on the field is not the domain of one team, country, or region. Every single rugby team on the planet tries to get away with what ever they can. And if they are not, tehn they are not trying.
Any fan who thinks their team is "cleaner" than another is delusional and not worth chatting with.
-
i find deliberate collapsing reprehensible, its one thing ive never come across someone advocating for in person but i know its out there
knowing a guy, how lost his ability to walk in a collapsed scrum really clarified what is right and wrong for me
-
@mariner4life I think you are misconstruing what I meant.
The Wallabies couldn't close out a game to save their fucking lives, whether it's collapsing a scrum or otherwise. I think the NH teams are very good at it. Perhaps 'notorious' was the wrong word.
You also rarely see it from the Darkness because, well, they rarely need to.

It's been fun-ish. A wee bit too much messy Rugby for my liking though.
I assume next year the games will be mixed up more between trans-tasman and games between franchises from the same country and it will be a single competition.
Iām not a fan of the two seperate comps. Needs to be combined somehow
