No. I just make shit up like the rest of you. Walter Mitty style. Never been in a plane actually.

If you lot stopped asking questions about it you wouldn't get bored with it I guess.

I just assumed 90% of the posters in here are overpaid IT workers, @MajorRage is an overpaid banker, you were an overpaid pilot who has retired to some type of orchard/farm and a basement, and @voodoo was clearly overpaid in some sector because his life appears to be endless travel in between hotel quarantines.

I'm going to win that Fernie, but not because of my profession.

Pffft, that stain will never wash off. 😉

Would I have been better to just use finance?

Yeah, probably. To be fair, where I work at a clearing bank now, which despite the name, isn’t really a bank!

    Get your head around that!

As I understand that, you are working for the middle man between two banks, so actually a double bank of sorts depending on semantics. Wasn't a clearing bank originally for cheques? Surely there are very few of them now, so what do they do? Do electronic payments also go through you guys?

    An outrageous slur!

But you're probably right, only someone vastly overpaid would choose to spend 7 weeks in Palmy during Covid. Living the dream!

In it's purest old school form, that is what a clearing bank does. The better way to explain it is that if you buy something expensive (say a car) off somebody privately, you deliver your cash to the bank, the seller deliver the car to the bank, then the bank distributes it. So you don't run the risk of sending the seller the cash and him not delivering on the car.

In reality that isn't what we do. We effectively finance clients trading activities, which is a banking activity, but the way we do it is a bit looser compared to standard banking activities. Most of our clients are the world biggest trading houses, so they effectively trade on the exchange and we net-settle their activities. So if a client buys 1,000 shares of ABC for 1,000 pounds, then sells them the same day for 1005 pounds, we basically give them 5 pounds and we do the rest. But the way it works in reality is that we may do 500,000 trades per day on a stock, and we net settle them all vs the exchange.

Does that make sense? Areyou still awake?

@taniwharugby I wonder what that family thinks of PETA's humane catch and release policy.

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/science/125229463/stargazers-heres-what-to-expect-as-a-rare-blood-supermoon-gets-set-to-light-up-nzs-sky

Stargazers won’t need to rush out and buy a telescope. Experts say the blood supermoon will be visible to the naked eye, and is expected to be spotted from most parts of the country as long as it’s not too cloudy.

That will be a relief to @Stargazer, but - No shit, Sherlock?!!

The threshold for expertise seems to be diminishing. I may be an expert on pretty much everything....

I do wonder what that family had done to those mice to trigger such a reaction? Unless of course it was just a prank that went wrong?

@catogrande I expect they did what PETA wanted and issued an eviction order, so the mice retaliated!

Mice related - we are going to end up with a similar problem around here. Council have done the whole area with Possum poison. We have dead possums everywhere on the roads (not even been hit by cars).

The problem is I haven't seen a Harrier for 3 weeks since they started. I assume that they are all dead from eating carcasses. They used to be all over the road kill.

Now we have nothing controlling the rodent population. They use 3 poisons, 2 of them stay in the flesh so the possums can't be used for pet food or anything else, and is detectable in soil for years. If they just use the cyanide based toxin it kills the possum, but isn't retained in the flesh, so the hawks can eat it safely.

So much for predator free NZ. Rats and mice everywhere. Our cat has been getting at least one mouse a night since they started poisoning.

For those in the know why would the NZ Herald publish this https://www.nzherald.co.nz/lifestyle/mcdonalds-order-error-leaves-traumatised-vegetarian-in-tears-and-vomiting/3B7UIPNV5XHUUOVB3JC4RQPL4Y/

Is it to share these horrific stories that vegetarians face so we can all help with a change to society

Or is it educate people that there are some whackos out there and we need to look out for them In case we have an encounter?

Or is it just plain old "Entertainment" to make us laugh and smile
