You would have to have rocks in your head to be a mum and Dad investor to go anywhere near the proposal that David Kirk is suggesting especially when you look at the big picture ,numbers playing are free falling , clubs are struggling to get numbers in many cases amalgamating..and even if you look at the game at the very top level , they play to half fill stadiums …I could not give a continental where David got his degree , this proposal has got more potential to more serious damage in the hearts and the minds of the supporters that the game has got left …have not met one person who said they would invest , I am already paid my dues for supporting and following this game I love ..

Yeah, I don't normally think of anything like this but would love to put a small amount in to truly be a shareholder in the game rather than trying to hold that claim because I watch TV or go to a game. That makes me a customer not a stakeholder.
And yes, I've put time into the game with coaching kids etc and paid club fees. I don't think that affords any kind of right though.

Reckon it does. It makes you an owner of the game.

The is owned by the club members, who appoint the representatives to the Unions, who appoint the NZR board.

To my mind, there are already shareholders in NZ Rugby.

Sadly, the NZ Provincial Unions only appoint three of the nine Board members now - one per year.

    Good rugby player.

How's his corporate financial acumen? Genuine question.

@booboo or his knowledge of all the finer detail.

Surely NZR have already investigated floating on the sharemarket at some point?

I thought that he was among the group of players that have been playing in the investment markets for some time. I may have this wrong but aren’t he and DC big investors in the retirement care sector?

    Weird post.

Great Rugby Player. Nothing wrong with his intellect or his financial acumen as far as I'm aware. Invested more in the Black Jersey than the rest of us.

Doesn't mean he knows Jack about how to financially secure the future of the game in NZ.

His best running buddy has an opinion, he agrees to it, quelle surprise. I'm not saying he's wrong, cos I have less idea than all of them, but the article and his opinion is about the same as 'club coach says one of his players deserves further international honours'. Not exactly unbiased

@machpants But not necessarily wrong either. It's no secret McCaw has skin in the game that's my point.

The arrogance of Mark Robinson and Co is thinking they are the only ones with financial acumen and that their answer is the only answer.

No, but that wasn't the question.

I simply stated that I think he has made good investment decisions in the past.
Anyway he isn'y commenting as an investment advisor, he is commenting on the way the SL deal has been presented and what he has been told about private equity deals in sports.

Given the way they have handled absolutely everything else since Robinson took over, I would seriously question whether they had unfortunately.

    Why is it weird?

    Is a genuine question.

Why do you think that "Richie" speaks means that he has any idea how the deal works? He may, but how?

Weider that you think he is an expert in international finance and marketing just because he was a decent footy player.

I'll acknowledge he is invested and across corporate financials in his participation in the retirement industry.

I'll acknowledge that he is invested in "The Black Jersey". But is he invested in the not for profit areas of NZ rugby?

What gets me about this issue is that the ONLY body which is against the deal is the only part of NZ rugby which exists to benefit its members directly. Each provincial union, and the NZ Maori have all voted in favour. And they exist for the not for profit side if the organisation.

It just stinks of the players chasing dollars to me.

Funnily enough, because they don't stand to directly benefit from the short sugar hit, I trust them more.

@booboo Provisional unions etc. are being promised short-term cash hit. I've no objections to the players having a say. Rugby is a players' game, always has been and always should be.
