@victor-meldrew aww look at that fluff ball, not scary at all... But doesn't fit the description does it.
I might need to start an 'I hate Cats' thread
It always fascinates me the way people react to cats. For some reason they really rub people the wrong way. Over the years I have seen some absolutely horrible cruelty offences against cats. Deliberate cruelty, whereas dogs have tended to be neglect.
Your comment for example, I know it was tongue in cheek, but very rarely would you get someone posting something like that about dogs. I also hear people say things like 'I fucking hate cats" but you don't hear people say that about dogs. Other examples, people pretend to speed up and run over cats, but not so often with dogs.
I think cats, big and small, are magnificent creatures.
On the whole cats don't connect with humans in the same way dogs do. Yes they can be cute but I would rarely encounter a cat owner that would describe their pet as a companion in the same way as a dog owner.
A well trained dog can and will accompany you on your travels, your activities, your trips to the pub and be happy to follow and do what you want.Cats do what they want when they want and demand you to pander to them.
Bad owners give cats a bad rep as well. Not neutering them, letting them roam and shit in neighbours gardens, hunt wildlife etc.
Yep I wouldn't miss cats much at all.In general, dogs are too needy for me.
I love the personality traits you describes about cats. I find it amusing, and sometimes annoying, when my cats refuse to do something because I want them to do it, and insist on doing something that I don't want them to do. It's their version of 'fuck you, I'll do what I want"
Roaming cats don't bother me. Probably because I like them.
We have dogs next door that bark all day. Now that's annoying.

The dogs next door are probably barking at your cat.
Get rid of the cat and the problem goes away.

I have both and that's a big reason why I like cats.

I hate stinky dogs that jump all over you ( I had a mates dog that did this back in the days when I had to wear suits ) and it irritated the fuck out of me. Fuck off fluffybunny, don’t invade my personal space and make me stink like a wet towel.....
I had to pretend to be sad when it died which was hard work.

Dogs are just great social animals. We can sit outside having a drink with 10 dogs ranging from a Dachshund to a Great Dane, a couple of horses, a goat and a chamois and they all get along fine. Then the cat walks into the middle of everything and just starts swiping at noses and winds them all up.
Cats are like women. -

We have a dog and 2 cats, they are all great, but dogs do require more work, ie Mrs TR sends our one to daycare, while the cats get to roam the neighbour killing
native birdsrats and mice as these are all they bring into the house. -

I used to be a huge fan of cats but recent encounters with a succession of shitty ones has shattered my faith in them. That includes the mentally retarded ginga cat my GF brought with her when she moved in. That thing makes goldfish look smart.
Still better than dogs though. Smelly, needy, barking halfwits who shit everywhere and chase after cars. Nothing I hate more than going to someone’s house and they have a dog running round inside. Especially when they hang around while you’re eating.

@taniwharugby My partner and her 8 month old puppy have been staying with me for 6 weeks as she (partner) broke her ankle so I am looking after her.
I have a rescue cat and watching the two animals interact has been quite amusing and informative.
Remember the cat is the one that has had to modify his actions in all this so he is the more aggrieved party e.g. cats like to graze, dogs pig out. Can't now leave cats food out as turn your back and the puppy has wolfed it down - cat's been locked in the other half of the house so he can't get into bedroom and jump on injured ankle etc.
Initially cat was really pissed off and a bit wary. Lots of hissing and spitting. Dog's just stupid and wants to play, get in the cats face etc. He has 3 cats in his own home and loves to chase them. Well rules were established very quickly.
cat tolerates dog but still makes plain his disdain for the whole situation. After a couple of swats the dog now gives cat a very wide berth. If one of us isn't present he will detour around the house to get between adjoining rooms to avoid cat.
cat's a clever little bastard. He's worked this out so he will sit at the house's choke points and basically pen the dog in. Or if dog is outside and it starts to rain will sit in doorway so dog can't get inside.
Dog simply doesn't learn though. A couple of times a day he will get carried away with his own flunkalunk-ness and make the mistake of trying to rough house play with the cat - with predictable results. Every. Single. Day. After six weeks you'd think he'd have learned - but no. Total fuckwit.
Dogs OK but much more demanding. Craves attention. Has to be walked. Local bar encourages dogs, takes their photo and puts them on a wall but I've never been able to take this moron as he definitely has small man's disease and is stroppy as fuck with other dogs. the think I really don't like is having to clear up his shit otherwise we get flies inside. Cats are much fucking cleaner.

@dogmeat yeah our dog had our 2 old cats, both passed away and we got 2 kittens (siblings again)
Dog thinks he is playing with them when cat sits there watchin him run around in circles, barking, eventually cat wanders off, dog sits there for a moment, chases after them, cat jumps on the fence and looks at him for a moment and disappears into the trees.
But all in all they get on well thier food is kept up away form him, they are fussy and dont care about his food, which he downloads faster than fibre!

Of course they will still do stupid things that annoy you when you aren’t watching.
Like get inside?

I've got a mate who speeds up and swerves at cats on the road, swears it's the best way to avoid hitting them.
