Sila Puafisi is a player that could play for this team. Back playing in NZ playing for Karaka. Counties Junior, played for Ta$man then overseas to Scotland, England, France. 27 Caps for Tonga. Tighthead Prop. Likely to play for Counties.

I just read that Tim Nanai-Williams' contract with Clermont expires at the end of the Top 14 season and is unlikely to be re-signed. Maybe they should try getting him back, as he's capped by Samoa. Surely he still has a few seasons in him?

Had him in my earlier possibles list.

@rapido firstly Totai, how was your experience playing for Tonga? Love it did you? Honoured to represent them were you?

Secondly, i honestly could not have given a single fuck if Fekitoa, Frizzel and Fifita played for Tonga over NZ. Not one single solitary fuck.

    Lomu?

You mean the NZ born and raised, Jonah Lomu?

Ah but, according to a lot of media and PI supporters out there, NZ born and bred comes after PI heritage in which team they should play for

@maxwell NZR simply can't help digging holes for itself. It's about time we simply stepped back and said we're not seeking to be paternalistic in our relationships, you manage your own affairs and suffer the consequences.

    @antipodean absolutely.

All the island unions had to do since professionalism - was rightly or wrongly, copy the NZ model. No rocket science involved, just get organised and copy everything from competition models to educational resource pathways and documentation.

The web made all that info accessible from S&C to skill development to coach education. Instead what we get is finger-pointing, corruption and self-interest at every corner.

@nzzp I don't think it's really necessary for the NZ teams to remain as strong as they are. Actually, it's probably better if they are diluted somewhat. As it stands they'll be on an even footing with about 2 of the Aus teams. They'll smoke everyone else, including Drua and whatever cobbled together MP team turns out.

That's only looking at SRTT as an end in itself (which, hopefully, it is). Hard to say what the flow on effects will be to the All Blacks and NZ rugby generally.

Are you being serious? None of the Islands, even all of the Islands together, have the infrastructure to just straight up copy the NZ model.

Appropriately scaled. Governance is a good one to start with.

Picking a Moana Pasifika XV of players coming off-contract in 2021

Picking a Moana Pasifika XV of players coming off-contract in 2021

The long-awaited inclusion of the Pacific Islands in franchise rugby is nearly upon us, but which players could Moana Pasifika sign for 2022?

@tim Way too many Wallabies and ABs capped players. Also very high average age.

@tim Toomua has signed on with Rebels & RA until after the 2023 RWC.

A better pick would have been Naisarani who's off contract and reportedly doubled his salary somewhere, though i suppose he would be more likely to play for Drua.

Yeah, some crazy stuff in that wish list. However the next tier of possibilities has some good names to take note of given their contract situations. Tony Pulu for instance. For that matter what about Augie Pulu? Both filling in in Oz when they could come back home.

'That is not something NZR can handle': Kanaloa Pasifika boss hits out after missing out on Super Rugby spot

Kanaloa Pasifika have hit out at New Zealand Rugby over the franchise's failed bid to enter next year's Super Rugby competition.

@bones Tracey Atiga, the woman who secretly recorded a meeting; who baited Rob Nichol to say what she wanted to hear; when he didn't and tried to reply to her question, she interrupted him and stopped him from doing so. Then she edited the recording to suit her narrative and posted it online. She can't be trusted.

Didn't she also lie about the support she had from potential sponsors, last year?

However, Atiga claimed Kanaloa Pasifika would have fielded a team comprised entirely of players from Pacific Island nations.

“The truth is, Kanaloa, we came through with 100 percent players from Pacific Island nations and it was always our pledge that we would do that," she told ABC.

So, does that include Kiwis & Aussies of Pacific heritage or not? Because she, and the likes of Dan Leo seem to stretch the meaning of Pacific Island players and include all players of PI heritage born in NZ, Australia and elsewhere outside the Islands in such a way that it reaffirms the opinion of those in the rest of the world that we've poached them.

If they don't inlcude Kiwis of Pacific heritage, where do all these players come from? Do they have that much money that they can sign all the best PI players in Europe/Japan? If not, how can this team be competitive?

“We’ve already been delayed a whole year, but come 30th June, if Moana Pasifika and the Drua have not met the conditions that New Zealand Rugby have put in front of them, I guarantee New Zealand Rugby are going to contact us because the need investors and they need a group that can actually stand up a team," she said.

“They knew right from the beginning that we were that group.”

Don't be too sure about that Mrs Atiga. You have been an unreliable, untrustworthy person.
