Amazing to me that with so much money behind it, it could still be executed so poorly.

This demonstrates the arrogance of the US owners, and the likes of Perez and Agnelli.

this is crazy, had they done no research into how their fans might react, are they honestly that arrogant?

all theyve ended up doing is taint their brand a little

Spanish clubs are broke, Italians are fading into irrelevance on a European level, and Americans can't comprehend relegation. This could end doing a lot of damage and good in football.

@kiwiwomble All except City have been in since the beginning. They were in the 3rd tier as recently as 1999

@dogmeat so not since they got they're current backer, these owners are either paranoid or they are tired of paying for a good squad and wanted to be able to ease off investment

It's more about not being in Champions league than relegation from the PL, La Liga etc. Pay-outs are also tiered based on position too.

@kiwiwomble I think they thought they could get a bigger piece of a bigger pie.

However they were obviously relying on pay per view as both Amazon and Sky said they weren't interested in TV rights.

So appealing to the Netflix generation and as has been said probably East and SE Asia more than Europe.

As @mofitzy_ says, it's not so much relegation from your domestic league that is the motivation behind this, but not being an automatic qualifier for the CL (top 4 in EPL). Playing in the CL brings in money which allows you to make a profit and strengthen your squad. The rich would just get richer.

in other good news Wimbledon have now won four on the trot and scored 14, not yet safe but putting up a bloody good fight, fourth in the form table

this whole debacle might make a lot of fans look at things like the "german model" or fan owned models like us

Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham have joined Chelsea and Manchester City in signalling their intention to withdraw from the European Super League.
The announcement on Sunday by the 12 clubs to form a breakaway Super League prompted a furious backlash across the continent.

    The grovelling has begun.

really has a feel of ... oh wait, you don't have a plan for the backlash? shit, we hadn't thought about that either! ummm, how about Chelsea, do you think they have a plan? ooooh so no one knows jack shit aside from the owners.... ah, yeah. That's going to be a tad problematic.

    Pull out!!

And the arrogance of the supporters of the Big 2 in Spain and Juventus. They seem to think that playing smaller clubs is beneath them. I might be wrong on this, but I think the Poms and Germans look at European football as the icing on the cake while it’s the be all and end all for the Spanish and Italians. I don’t think we’ve quite seen the end of this. Just begun this war has.

Again, doing this without even informing the players and managers was crazy. Obviously they didn’t want leaks, but placing the players and managers in such an impossible position was never going to end well.

@rancid-schnitzel If these US owners leave with their tails between their legs, then the last 48 h would have been worth it.

yeah, could be interesting if any of these clubs end up on the market, if the owners are pissed off enough
