@Bovidae @Crucial that's interesting. My impression is he gets it wrong more often than he gets it right and I just find it a bit pointless. "Reece is lining up behind the scrum here" no shit Sherlock, that's a typical place for the blindside winger to stand.

@bones Which highlights how bad the rest of the commentators/analysts are. 😉

@bovidae I feel Meg only works in analysis after or before a game, during is where he is annoying AF and prone to his emotional outbursts or getting things completely wrong.

I think Meg is good value when looking at backline formations from scrums/lineouts to predict what the move may be, or how the attacking team was able to manipulate the defending team to score a try. Sure, he won't be 100% correct all of the time, but that is what an analyst should do. I don't bother with the fluff before games, unless it is an AB test. The current SRA post-match stuff is cringe-worthy.

Depends what you’re into. Apparently the comedy stylings of Joe Wheeler aren’t to be missed.

Yeah. I have no idea why he feels the need to say something just because.
That's not the 'analysis' I'm talking about. It is the (rare) times when he has time to put his brain in gear before letting the clutch off his mouth and uses a replay to show how (for example) a defence was manipulated successfully to create a half gap in a planned move or a quick sequence of rucks creates a mismatch.
He has the ability to set up some good 'circles and arrows' stuff for half time and post match and that is where he should be used IMO. A bit like Kafer did at the start in Oz before he went all Mr Clickbait.

Who called the Clan Chiefs game? Seemed like Sumo on chill pills — much more appealing!

My most annoying rugby commentator I think is relatively new "I think". I had to put a few games on mute last year when he was calling the Mitre 10 Cup. He was monotone, repetitive and deliberately had a pause between every syllable. Was annoying AF. Made me appreciate the other guys more. I have no idea of what his name was but hopefully I don't have to hear him again.

I'm completely guessing here but maybe Beaven Dewer? One of the two voices in the clip embedded halfway down.

Media bias, collective guilt for Nazi atrocities and being on the wrong side of history: It was a pretty heavy Sunday night on Radio Sport.

@smudge thanks smudge, i think you might be right..i found this highlight footage of southland v waikato last year which doesn't sound as annoying as the 80 minute version, but you can still hear the deliberate pausing between syllables just shits me to tears.. 🙂 I will put myself in the grumpy old man thread.

OK, nearly all is forgiven after listening to the Aussie bunch. Do they get supplied with a book of cliches so that there is no gap in the incessant talking/ waffling?

The saddest thing is how bad they are without even dipping into the so-bad-its-good category.

I'm going to say it, I like the Aussies more than the NZ commentary teams. SBW and Mehrts are better than the ex players rolled out in NZ too.

TJ needs to go back to hosting Reunion, something he was good at, as he is a tiresome commentator (especially in Blues games as mentioned frequently on here by the bulk of fan despite his few heroic defenders who pretend not to hear it). Nisbett is well past he use by date, first he couldn't tell brown players apart, then white players, and now he can't tell white and brown players apart.

Fuck, I hope I don't have Stockholm Syndrome.

I was having a chuckle last night at the Aussie comms guys all sounding like they had been sent on a course to pronounce PI names properly. All these years of not giving a shit and it looks like their employers have forced their hand.

First time I have ever heard of Matt Tow-oh-moo-ah.

They're Aussies so it's to be expected, Nisbett and Smith are as bad or worse.

WTF is going on today, that's twice I've defended the Aussies.

My trip to NZ can't come soon enough.

I think they all pretty much suck but no NZ commentator has said anything as retarded as that “17 try thriller” comment the other night. And even that irredeemable racist bigot Joe Wheeler is preferable to SBW. Awesome offload plus six pack does not mean good as a TV com. Although it appears enough for some.

Not for me. I don't really see what Wheerer adds, at least SBW tries.

Coverage in general is much better from the Aussies. They sound like they enjoy rugby for a start.
