@canes4life yup Blackwell likely to start again and princeep who I don't mind tbh he's actually been playing well don't know why people hate on him π€·π½ββοΈ princeep ardie and Flanders would be our best against saders
Yeah, that's the trio I'd pick. Kirifi makes the loose-forward trio a bit unbalanced with Savea there too, as they are both pretty small players for loose forwards (both under 100kg). Flanders to start at 8, Savea back to 7 and Kirifi on the bench.
Your point still stands, but both Kirifi and Savea are listed as being over 100kg on the Canes website

realised Kirifi was an even hotter head coming off the bench
He was terrible in the first game this year (vs Auckland) coming on as a replacement. Its an area Kirifi needs to work on as its not just a one-off issue. And now his other qualities don't make up for his hot-head momements.
I would give him a week off and try one of the other replacement 7 options. Esp if Fifita is back. And hope hes calmed down for the final 2 games.

@winger I don't really get this perspective. JGB is in a word, average.
Do we want the Canes to win the comp, or finish mid table at best?
The Canes have too many favourites. I have no doubt guys like Prinsep & Blackwell give their all at training, but, they're just not very good.
I think what Thorn did with the Reds is the right way - get rid of dead wood, and pick young guys who may amount to something. You won't always get it right but it's better than being a middling franchise like the Canes are becoming
-
@canes4life they had Taumateine without a bib on aswell running plays also, I donβt mind I got 5/6 right π

As are most of the Canes firsts over the years. Barrett has been one shinning exception
But he
Defends well
Clears the line well
He was slowish but his speed has improved a lot. And maybe after the operation he will be faster still
He usually finds his man when he breaks the line (unlike Howell)
And hes strong and big enough to break the line at timesAnd great firsts don't grow on trees. So yes I would love a RM or DC. Or even a young Barrett. But we have to wait until hopefully Love proves to be Carter plus. Or even more realistically close to Carter and I would be a happier man
-
@winger my point on this is more that if we select JGB calibre players, we won't win the comp - yet we do, week in and week out
it's just accepting mediocrity to me
McClutchie would have been a better choice pre season - he has more upside than JGB has.
JGB ain't gonna get any better

I wonder whether that number of weeks might be less if they had just taken him off straight away.
-
@stargazer said in Hurricanes 2021:
@gt12 Yep, I can understand why he wanted to play on, but already thought during the game that it was stupid to risk it. The coach should have had the balls to pull him.
Terrible lack of professionalism too; he's a very valuable asset that just shouldn't be risked in that situation.
-
@stargazer I guess the problem is the Dr is going to go on what Ardie tells him/her, if Ardie plays down the pain or seriousness then they can only go on that.
I commented at the time I hope playing on wouldn't make it worse.
So how long is it before the canes findout how long they lose Laumape for?
-
@taniwharugby I'm not sure he has been cited?
-
@stargazer thought I saw a clip on the news about him being cited?
He damn well should be if not, was a RC offence
-
Why the fuck would you sign Savea until 2023. He should be a year by year case.
These people are morons.
When are the Hurricanes actually going to announce a signing we can celebrate.
