It might be one of those injuries that force the coaches into a better selection balance.
Not sure I would not Sotutu as a "big bruiser".
Akira maybe.Akira deserves a shot after his test form late last season
He'd be at six in my team. With him and Akira in the backrow, imagine the carnage that Savea would be freed up to do.
Two good lineout options too.

I wonder if the Ginga Messiah could be that lock/loosie for the bench that Ted was always searching for?

No brainer for me. I think he'd go great at Test level

@crucial If you believe stats (add pinch of salt) he's 2cm taller than Akira (192) and 7kg less at 106kg. Not sure i can believe that weight.
Plays heavier than that to me. Certainly not a small player.
Canโt say Iโve ever really seen him knocking people about more than others.

He has a great ability to brush off tacklers and get into space. That's strength, and people just remember the breaks for the speed, but he's getting himself into those positions with power.

Nah it's more his feet, he's not a boofer, he just gets weak shoulders because he's so good at running the right lines and using his feet. He doesn't run into people directly and sit them down like Akira.

Akira has pretty good footwork (and pace) too.
He just seems to be a bit off the boil, which was nice of him last week. Hopefully heโll be back to hid best this week.
Yeah he does, but he's also quite keen on using his bulk to sit people down.

Yeah he does, but he's also quite keen on using his bulk to sit people down.
Which is why heโs the answer at 6 (possibly 8).
Robinson off the bench (or at 6).
-
There are still plenty of candidates for the 6 and 8 jersey, apart from A Ioane and Sotutu, who both haven't been great, this season.
Grace, Blackadder, and if they would get decent playing opportunites Robinson and Flanders, too. There's also Luke Jacobson, who should not be counted out. MMT has had a quiet season like Akira and Sotutu, so probably not putting his hand up right now, but he has the potential.
For 7, I think that should now be a battle between Ardie and Papalii, and with some daylight between them, Kirifi and maybe (longer term), Christie.

He's the answer if the question is which All Black brother could possibly be selected at 6 or 8.
-
Iโm going to say it. Grace isnโt even as good as Blackadder right now.
Iโm still yet to see his super potential that gets everyone thinking he is the answer at 6 or 8.
-
@gt12 Yep, Grace, like A Ioane and Sotutu (and MMT) isn't as good as last year. He showed that super potential, last year, though and he has plenty of time, at the age of 21.
Blackadder is having a great season.

There are rumours coming out of the UK this morning that Scott Robertson has told the RFU he's not interested in the England job because he's back in training to take back the All Blacks 7 Jersey for the forthcoming games against Italy, Fiji and North Macedonia.

He's more Read than Billy V, but still very powerful and capable of big hits and bending the line
-
Think he has enough power but a whole lot of skill and pace. Will probably bulk up a bit more, he's only 22.
-
@gt12 Jeez, a very, very young lad operating in a loose forward trio that hasn't been bested yet and you try to stigmatize him with that BS? He shouldn't be in Black this year judging by the experienced talent NZ has at the moment but I reckon someone needs to save this for future reference!

Ah, the Broomhall defense.
Their loose forward trio operates with the best front five in the competition.
What I said was "I hope Iโm wrong but he looks like Reuben Thorne 2 to me so far."
He played well against the Canes, but against the Landers and the Blues he was clearly the worst of the starting (Sader) loosies.
He's a good young player but he shouldn't be mentioned in AB calculations based on his performances this year. So far he looks like a solid worker but not a special player.

If you are only basing your AB calculations on this yearโs performances then there are a few guys who will be in trouble. Sotutu has been pretty anonymous. Akira hasnโt been as good as previous seasons. Even Cane and Ardie have been quiet.
Grace clearly has something that the selectors like and showed last season that he could carry well and could sit guys on their arse in defence.
As an AB from last year he is 100% in the AB squad conversation. -

Grace is pretty bloody handy in the lineouts too.
Another thing I have noticed is the speed he gets up off the ground and resets himself following contact . That is a quality coaches seem to like, just ask one or two other loosies out there battling for an AB spot.
Sometimes I think we as fans have way too high expectations of younger players. Another guy that springs to mind is Trask. After reading the Chiefs/Blues thread I was expecting to see him shit the bed, but when I finally got around to watching the game (or at least the first 55 mins) I thought he went well again. He defended well (for a 10), ran onto the ball well and passed well. He could work on his kicking game, but I wouldn't throw the kid out with the bath water just yet.

luke jacobson going alright too, going to be interesting who they pick

Sotutu didnโt look that big when I saw him on the plane a couple of weeks back but then again he was next to Patrick Tuipulotu who is an absolutely gigantic human being.
Amazing how recognisable players are even with facemasks on.

Maybe his point is, according to sponsors and advertising you see in half time, most kiwi supporters are farmers ergo shitty internet.

yes but I'd have thought they'd stay conservative, stick to Ardie and Dalton off the bench plus he covers the other positions (or at least 6, right?)
Or perhaps they play Ardie at 8 or Hoskins...
But I think they'll be interested in Robinson as well (possibly more at 6?)
Gee, it looks like musical chairs in the loosies...again..
Scrum otherwise looks same old? But perhaps two cantab locks?
