think it was Liam Coltman that took the team pig hunting as team building which at least partially lead to the "Razorback" nickname we used for a few seasons

Another elderly resident in the area, where numerous properties are situated close to Ioane's house, said players chanted “we are the Highlanders” at last week’s boozy party.

At least they were getting into the team spirit!

Ardie Savea has exploded on twitter about that story. Apparently, journalists aren't allowed to investigate what happened after players get stood down.

Personally, I hate clickbait and often journalists go too far, exaggarate, make mountains out of molehills, etc etc. Also in this case, the publicity and especially the way they've written about the players is way over the top, but surely they wouldn't be doing their job if they just accepted the message of the Highlanders management that they got stood down for breaching team protocol and not try finding out what happened?

    @stargazer

For those without Twitter, can we get some examples?

I can see why players would feel a bit pissed about their private lives being dished up in the news, but in this case you’re right to point out that we’d have an even worse press if they didn’t try to find out what happened.

@gt12 Part of it is here. There are also reactions to it from other players like Nehe Milner-Skudder, Sarah Hirini, but also other journalists (defending Cully).

Woah. I just saw the journalists' discussion about the Highlanders' team naming. That explains a bit why it became such a story.

If you're interested, for those on twitter, look at the reactions to this post:

I am on the side of the players and the Highlanders. The media can go fuck themselves. Ardie is right, on one hand they promote mental health and on the other they drag these kids through the papers for being like nearly every other person their age.

Highlanders hit with another injury blow as Josh Ioane deemed available for selection again

Highlanders hit with another injury blow as Josh Ioane deemed available for selection again

Highlanders star Josh Ioane will be available to play for his side again when they face the Chiefs in Dunedin this Saturday.

Umaga-Jensen will miss the remainder of the season due to a broken arm in what is the latest blow for a young player that has shown glimpses of his vast potential but has been riddled with injury in recent seasons.
As for Fakatava, the highly-promising 21-year-old left the field last weekend with a swollen knee that Dermody said needs to be scanned before a decision can be made regarding his availability for the Chiefs clash.

Huge blow if Fakatava is gone, swollen knee is never a good sign.

Bugger. He was one player I wanted to watch

Also this. Hopefully he can sort this out.

Off-season recruit Solomon Alaimalo, meanwhile, remains unavailable for selection.

“He's dealing with some personal issues, he's outside of the team at the moment,” Dermody said.
