@duluth I thought Izzy had all 1-3 rounds but the output stats in round one surprised me. Jan was 16-10 in significant strikes.
Being a boxing guy the control aspect is always a bitter pill to swallow but not in this case. Jan was busy and got the good ground and pound in.
Jones predictably blasting izzy while unknowingly insulting Jan. Or maybe he does know.
-
@raznomore i was tossing up 1-2 either way. really thought izzy would hit more but Jans defence was very good.
i think guys like whittaker or costa will take some confidence from that, but getting izzy down will be another story -
As a report card from CKB they can be pleased with KKF. He saw off a very good grappler and finished him A+. Ulberg was a hard D. Gassed after 2min of the first round and no defense. Listening to him talk I don't think he's the smartest cat. I think he did enough to have another crack but I reckon he's a bust. Izzy C+. He lasted the fight. But he never got going. Looked too small on the ground and Jan knew it for sure. He got checked repeatedly on his right side but just kept kicking there. Need to mix it up.
-
Yan threw /kicked that away.
Thought Sterling milked it though.
Easy rematch. Yan to take it.
Nunes = GOAT
Hopefully Jan does the same to Glover then Jon Jones.
That would be a very good 2021 for him and hopefully then people would give him his dues.
Early and Prelim were great watching.
Fantastic night.
-
@duluth had Yan not done what he did they would have won fotn easily. Good on Ulberg he was entertaining and hopefully he's not as dimwitted as I think he is. Goes out and learns head movement and ups his cardio.
KKF well deserved. He was outstanding. That buys a lot of nappies.

Some good undercard and main card fights today. Brad Riddell bout unfortunately called because of COVID. Alex Volkanovski also confirmed he's contracted it so there's a good chance the two camps have come together...if so it'll be interesting to see if Alex has inadvertently fucked over Riddell again. Last time he cut Brad badly in sparring..
I'm just talking bs through no idea what's happened for sure.
The main fight sucked. Brunson did what he needed to get the W. But Holland is all shit. He talked in he lead up. In the walk out, at the introduction, during the fight and worst of all in the corner. If I was one of his corner men Id be pissed. He was more interested in talking to Khabib. Just blew a fuse in his head and went too far over into his motor mouth persona. He's not on anyone's radar now.

Spot on
Some good finishes

I guess that some will class this cancelling but what a dumb-shit thing to say.
I get that fight sports have trash talk as part of their culture but there are basic lines that you don't cross in public man.
And for all the talk last year of respecting a fighter on the same plane as other athletes? You need to make sure you don't undermine that respect by talking in a manner that no other sports would.
Just adds fuel to the fire that UFC is glorified prison brawling.

A bit silly but not a big deal
Plenty of people use that sort of language when discussing sports. For instance a quick search and found this:
@crucial said in Aus v NZ -Chappell Hadlee series III - MCG:
There was a total lack of lube used in that whole series. We were comprehensively bullied and prison raped.
@crucial said in Ireland II:
It's not often I support Australia but I hope the completely arse-rape the Irish this weekend just to see what excuses Kearney will come up with this time.
He's speaking like a TSFer which is generally a good thing. He just needs to tidy it up slightly on social media to stay out of trouble with the pearl clutchers.

Well done. Not that it is a relevant point but did you have dates for those. I can't recall them at all (that could be my old age)
But yeah nah! Speaking like a TSFer on a public platform as an easily identifiable person who has previously asked the public for respect is pretty dumb and undermines any credence you have tried to build for your sport. What other sportspeople talk like this? (aprt from the sport of talking shit on the interweb)

@crucial boxing? I seem to remember Tyson talking about wanting to eat children.
Marc Ellis made a rape joke on Sports Cafe, so add Rugby.
And in a sport that has players pissing into their own mouths, I suspect I wouldn’t have to look to hard at League.
It’s almost like sports people are just regular people.

I think you’ll find that you recall all of those examples because of the reactions to them.
I’d hardly call that “normal people “.All my point was is that he was really stupid and undermined a view that he has been trying to get across.
I guess that you agree? -
@crucial no you were making the point that this was specifically a UFC problem.
It was trivial to come with examples of other sports doing the same thing, and even your own posts
I’m sorry. Please show me where I said it was a UFC problem.
Are you sure that you aren’t being defensive about a sport that you like whose big NZ star is being a dick?Edit: I have edited a word in a previous post to be closer to what I meant.
I'm not attacking UFC, I'm saying that if a sport wants to have respect and credibility with the general public then perhaps they should rid themselves of dumb shit like this.

Possibly off topic but I look at the mentality between combat sports and tennis. I mean can you imagine Roger Federer having to use his personality to hype up a Grand Slam ?
That man went to the Crossroads and exchanged amazing tennis ability for a personality.

Just on that “hype up” comment, some context for those that don’t follow results
Adesanya is not fighting Holland. So there is nothing to hype.
Holland is ranked quite low and he put in an insipid performance last weekend. It has done real damage to his career. Adesanya was jokingly pointing out how far away Holland is from the belt. It was used in the same way you/crucial and others have used it around here when describing a lack of contest

Picks for 260 @MiketheSnow @raznomore ?
Miocic v Ngannou
Micocic to avoid the power in the first two minutes. Decision to MiocicWoodley v Luque
I can't see Woodley halting the declineO'Malley v Almeida
Early KOMullarkey v Worthy
Slight upset here. Mullarkey is better than he gets credit for. Might be the fight of the night.Young v Morales
I'll be cheering for Young. There was an interview earlier in the week where he seems distracted by some external stuff this week (the incorrect media reports that his fight was off etc). Hope I'm wrong but this is a tough fight with an awkward build up.
