The reason the Crusaders are so good is they scout the whole country for talent and pick accordingly.
The Canes need to look outside the region, identify areas where they need to improve (obvious example being the tight five) and develop players from there. Whether they are from HB, Wellington, Ta$man, Otago - if the player fits then so be it.
Blackwell is a Wellington player and I’m 100% agreeing that he should be no where near this level.
Just sucks that our coaches are pathetic and can’t spot the difference between an NPC level player and a Super Rugby player.
If that’s the case put down your sword and shield and leave the horse in the sheds whenever we’re ranting about good enough to wear the jersey Magpies players not making the Canes and come join in. Instead of the opposite.

Ardie, Flanders at 6, and Evans when he comes back or Flanders at 8 and Fifita at 6 are both better options than any involving Prinsep or Kirifi as 7 instead of Ardie.

Kirifi is from Taranaki so he can bugger off to the Chiefs.

@nepia the best balanced loose forward combo we can pick is 6. Flanders 7. Savea and 8. Evans. Hopefully Evans makes a return soon.
You could then have maybe Fifita and Kirifi on the bench providing impact.
Unfortunately Holland will always pick Prinsep in this scenario even though he’s obviously not upto it.

And he can hardly drop him as he stated last season that his presence on the field was justified because he and Blackwell were part of the senior leadership group.

Fifita provides a good attaching (and line-out) option.
But until these incompetent, third rate coaches stop selecting rubbish like Blackwell and Prinsep the team will continue to struggle against a in form team. And the longer this crap goes on the harder and longer the team will take to recover when the fool coaches finally go. Even the Hammer wasn't this bad.
Although the Blues seem to have recovered from poor coaching fairly quickly. But it needs changes at the very top and then good coaches and a good team will follow
Maybe the Blues Ak coaches (both ex Canes) would be worth a look. But Ive lost all hope with this lot. They can't see whats obvious. For example Prinsep was playing bad even for his standards in this game but they keep him on almost until the end. He should have been pulled at HT

Not a new occurrence no. It's de rigueur with every hooker. I've no doubt Taylor did it too. Not that I was trying to single our RR (who was nevertheless fairl diabolical), but I remember Grant Fox having a try ruled out for the hooker having his foot in the field of the play.
Since you ask, if you stand on the touchline with the ball, you are in touch.
Certainly, back in the day when I played, you had to stand behind the touchline to throw the ball in. Mind you, that was in the days when the wings threw the ball in.
I dunno why they would have changed the rule to allow the hooker to stand a bit closer - seems a bit of a pointless and untidy change.

I’m not sure it has changed, but I guess they looked at the likes of Harris, Coleman, Aumua and decided it would decrease the number of not straight scrums if they make it a little bit easier for them to do their core job.

@nepia I've actually thought of a potentially logical reason for the change.
When they converted from yards to metres they presumably changed the distance to the front of the lineout from 5 yards to 5 metres.
Which would have required the thrower to chuck it an extra .468 of a yard - which is probably about the size of a hooker's foot + the width of the touch line.
