Hurricanes 2021

@taniwharugby I’d be happier if we signed a couple decent tight forwards.
-
@canes4life Signing him is not enough; he needs to get sufficient game time, too. Knowing the Canes, he'll be stuck behind TJP (if he decides to return) for the next few years. So probably not better off than when he stays at the Landers. If TJP moves on, then things could be different ...
-
@stargazer He will also probably be stuck being Luke Campbell, who is essentially a Wellington product afterall, as well!
Incidentally who of Booth, TJP, Taumateine, Campbell, Roiguard or the almost inexhaustible supply of halfbacks brought in by the WRFU get given the DCM to fit Fakatava in? -
@higgins Roigard is only an injury replacement for Booth, so he doesn't count. Campbell only has a one-year contract (brought in because TJP isn't there). So he'd have to replace either Booth or Taumateine, who are also off-contract. In fact, the Canes have not a single halfback contracted for 2022 and beyond, yet.

@kpkanz in response to your comments on Jordie. We are talking about fullback not wing. Jordie was the better fullback last year so judging him as a winger is stupid - he just doesn’t have the pace. His height, size and kicking game are suited to 15. Go and watch some of his highlights for the Canes last year, he was fucking brilliant and would have lead most of the stats if he didn’t miss those first two rounds.
He’s a totally different to players like Jordan and Ben Smith who are able to move to the right or left wing as they have the pace to do so.
If you think Jordan and Jordie are like for like then ask Jordan to kick a 60m shot at goal.

How very un Canes like to try sign a player with Flair though we should’ve thrown at least a development contract at him when he came out of school.

I kept track of the stats and thats not true at all. Jordie had more carries than Jordan throughout the season and was way down on every attacking stat and it wasnt even close. Jordan was either 1st or 2nd in metres made/defenders beaten/tries. Jordie wasnt close in ANY attacking category (wasnt in the top 10 for pretty much all of them) yet had more carries than Jordan throughout the season.

Honestly speaking, there really isn't much in terms of good cattle ready to come and help out areas of weakness in the Canes right now, is there? Some good midfield talent, which they don't really need, and players most people have never heard of at lock and in the halves.

Hes playing well enough. Esp playing in a poorly functioning team
Heres athe Canes rating
It does highlight a few players that need to be looked at. Goosen looks a shadow of his form last year (time to start Rayasi). Armstrong is not up to much (and never really was). Maybe time to start Numia with an exception to allow more HB players in the team as the replacement LH. Prinsep was awful. Last year he was adequate but this game he wasn't even close to adequate. Yet with a good replacement in the reserves was keep on for 64 minutes. Coaches weren't rated but really deserve a minus 10 rating. They are hopeless
I also thought Luke Campbell made a difference when he came on and would start him next game. And I wonder how Roigard is going as a potential replacement
They team is playing poor rugby. The starting selections are poor. Replacement timing are terrible. But the hopeless Chiefs next just to see how bad the team is this year. Like bottom bad or not quite

For an AB spot? I cannot agree. He's certainly in good nick and playing better than he was in 2020 Mitre 10 Cup but he clearly lacks the explosiveness/speed when you compare him to Clarke, Nareki, Fainga'anuku, Reece etc. Heck even Rayasi in 15 minutes on the field showed more.

Totally. He was playing in the centres in the NH, and that is where his body is at now. But had he got the skills to do that at a higher level still, and the mental awareness?
