Hurricanes 2021

@Winger I think your missing something then. He was very solid for Wellington in his limited game time and is definitely a number 6. Very good line-out option, dominant defender and looks to be a smart player to boot. He’s still young so has some developing to do but from what I’ve seen he’s a much better prospect than Blackwell. One of us will be proven wrong I guess.

I spotted Orbyn Leger in one of the Hurricanes Insta stories today.
-
@Canes4life Yep, looks like him. Another one taking up a spot that could have been McClutchie's. I don't know why I keep hoping to spot him in clips and photos ... It clearly isn't happening.
-
By the way, they have posted the Hurricanes headshots on the Getty website. It's interesting to see who are and aren't there.
It seems to be the Super Rugby squad only (not WTG), without All Blacks (obviously, they're still on their break) and that seems to include Du'Plessis Kirifi and Peter U-J, who came back from Australia early. The head shot photos were taken (on 13 January). In the mean time, I've seen Kirifi and PU-J in photos/clips on instagram from training.
Not in the head shots and not in the clips/photos on insta: Kane Le'aupepe. Is he (still) injured? Also, Gareth Evans. I don't think he's injured, so ???
In the first set of headshots and photos/clips, but not in the squad announced on 3 December:
Cam Roigard, so I assume he's officially the injury cover for Jamie Booth? In the second, bigger set of headshots, but not in the squad announced on 3 December:
James O'Reilly, why is he there?? Is someone injured? Coles? Aumua? Not Riccitelli, he seems to be training normally. They picked O'Reilly, not Thompson (who I haven't spotted in the WTG clips either, this year), no Kereru-Symes.

@Stargazer you didn't spot Aiden Morgan in this shot which will rub more salt into the wound in regards to McLutchie.
-
A few new players at the link including Tyrone Thompson @Stargazer -
Anyone know who the player is next to Isaia Walker-Leawere?
-
@Canes4life Not convinced it's him, but could it be Zane Kapeli? This photo is blurred, but shows his face better.
Good to see Thompson there. -
Ruben Love won the annual Surf to Peak comfortably today, cementing all the talk that I’ve heard around him being an absolute professional in everything he does. These new young kids setting a high standard of fitness, I’m liking what I’m seeing.
1st. Ruben Love
2nd. Luke Campbell
3rd. James Blackwell
4th. Cam Roigard
5th. Billy Proctor -
@Canes4life James Blackwell was a former winner of that event too so you obviously can't read too much into it.
-
thats cos the old boys know how to pace themselves for the season, the young pups out of the gate quick, keen to impress
-
@Higgins I’ve heard plenty about Ruben’s talent but if he has a good work ethic to back that up then he has the potential to go far in the game. A good playmaker sets the bar high and he’s obviously done that in his first stint with the Canes.
The difference with Blackwell is he never really had talent or height to match his work ethic.
-
@taniwharugby this is true, or their age is usually an excuse to not partake.
-
@Stargazer do you know who the players are either side of Zane Kepeli (far left middle) in the photo below from todays boxing session?
I also notice G Evans at the back, along with Kirifi and P Umaga-Jensen.
-
@Canes4life Your mystery player above isn't Kapeli but the player with the longer hair could be. Kapeli is a loose forward whereas the other guy is taller than IWL.
