@Gunner Siraj’s 5 wickets, Washington’s two innings were big time too I reckon.
Indeed, I love the fact that there's still room for vital innings that aren't huge in the modern game. Those efforts were as valuable as centuries all things considered.

Sack the coach, sack the captain.
Keep Wade though just in case...
Yeah the opposition would appreciate it if he were there too.

Amazing stuff from such an inexperienced side missing so many regulars.
Ponting in comms was saying on Day 3 that guys like Washington and Siraj are exposed to so much high level play at home now, along with mentoring from international players and coaches through IPL and other competitions.
Sure, you can only get 11 out there at a time, but when you're selecting those 11 from the best of a nation that large, it has to have an effect.
At the same time we debuted a couple of blokes who did alright, but I think we gave Starc too many chances instead of trying someone else, and obviously the batting didn't perform well enough in the first 2 Tests.

Yeah I dunno, they've been quite shite in the past and they've had about the same amount of people to select from.
They've obviously got the coaching set up right.......they've always had the batsmen but they actually have some decent fast bowlers for once as well.

The best run 2 you'll ever see
Not as good as the ones to win
Ummm that was 4😉. Your man Starc got it in very well but those two just scampered. I thought it was a wee moment

Really? Look at the last decade:
I count 20 series wins out of 30, and 1 drawn. That isn't too shabby, even if they've struggled in swing-friendly New Zealand (in the same period, NZ haven't won in India).
Over the same period, Australia have won 15 series from 33 (or 34) with 4 drawn. The days of Steve Waugh's legendary sides is long gone.
They've obviously got the coaching set up right.......they've always had the batsmen but they actually have some decent fast bowlers for once as well.
And I think that is actually a product of realising their weaknesses away from home. In England against the Duke, and on green seamers in New Zealand, they weren't doing that well. In Australia we provided them roads to bat on but their bowling wasn't consistent enough.
But it is definitely improving.

Well, shite relatively speaking for a country with a fuckton of players to choose from
I also meant further back than ten years......well I do if it supports my argument at any rate.

If Pattinson hadnt got injured, I reckon they would have rotated Starc out for this test.
I don't know who their 5th choice would have been, Nesser? Bit of a step down? lack of faith in depth beyond first 4?
If Pattinson is out, then maybe Abbott or Nesser. A step down in theory, but on form? We'll never know.
I think Starc's continued inclusion after the Second Test was the belief that he just needed to find a rhythm. However, in that he's similar to Mitch Johnson for me: unless he's on at the start, he's not going to be "on" unless you kick him up the arse.

After the Aussie cricketers reverted to type, the world celebrates! Love it.
Huh? Explain.
Easy...everyone admires the Australian Cricket team for their skills. But, there is an aggressiveness / need to win that can turn to nasty sledging and recently to cheating. Supposedly they have worked hard on their culture but Tim Paine demonstrated that it is very hard to change and the needless bullshit is still their. When you behave like dicks you can’t complain if no one else likes you - noting that I am sure they don’t worry about that as they are still a great cricket team.
-
and the best news of all is that NZ is now second on the WTC table:

God this might be gay but I just see a tiny bit of similarity in the slight decline of this aus team and our ABs after such dominance over a long time. Players pretty much the same but now good teams are doing to them what they dined out on for ages.
Declining empires? Probably reaching but something's not the same in both teams
