Black Caps v Pakistan

That is a good one. Shows just how good Young has been too. I don't remember the last time we had batting depth this good. No one looks like they're only their because of a lack of alternatives (maybe Blundell the makeshift opener but his performances have been okay) and not one but two guys smashing the door down at FC level.

Two? Conway and Ravidra?

Young.
1124 runs, 2 tons, average 66 and 996 runs, 5 tons, average 62. That's the last 20 innings from Young and Conway. (taken from that article)

Nicholls needed that big ton, no two ways about it but I think it needs to be remembered that Ross Taylor is surely only a season or two away from retiring and for me Nicholls will take the spot at four with Conway slotting in at five ( or the other way round ). They’ll give him a pretty long leash to find form I reckon.
-
How many times was Nichols dropped by the Windies when he made his last 100? At least three? I am not convinced he is 'back' yet.

Yeah getting runs against a team as awful as they were may not be the best yardstick

The answer is in the article. Typical bloody fern ..........
-
Well, maybe not all of the drops.
On 21, he hit one straight to short leg that didn’t stick, and on 47, he was put down twice in the slips, while there were a number of other false shots and edges.
There were so many half chances / false shots in the first 50 or so runs.

So typical shit or bust Kiwi batsman. Minimum 500 runs in 5 innings means 496 in total over the other 15. So an average in the low 30's. Not exactly Mr Consistency then.

One of them was actually a triple hundy.
Edit. No, Those are Young's numbers, not Conways.
-
Although I think Andrew Voerman's numbers are wrong on Conway.
he’s scored 1124 runs in his last 20 first-class innings* at an average of 66, with two centuries
I make it that Devon Conway has scored 1344 runs from his last 20 FC innings, 3 hundreds & 6 half-centuries, average of 74.66
157, 4, 16, 27, 94, 31, 81, 94, 327, 66, 96, 19, 4, 9, 40, 1, 156*, 14*, 46, 62

@Rapido I want to see both him and Young in the team asap. Time to get a bit ruthless with our selections.
Kane WIlliamson made no runs in the last test. Fuck him off for a start

The fact he put his wife and her well being before the team absolutely disgusts me

Will Young did score 996 runs in last 20 FC innings. So Voerman correct there.
Average is 62.25
But 4 hundreds, not 5.4 hundreds, 2 low 50s, but only 3 single digits. So actually not famine or feast. Rather too many wasted starts.
These were the scores:
133, 14, 110*, 9, 23, 43*, 10, 133*, 1, 22, 68, 17*, 26, 54, 3, 150, 20, 20, 17, 123Of those 20 innings - it covered 5 matches which were for NZ 'A' against India 'A' and touring West Indians. Which adds a bit more gravitas, including being elevated to open, as he did in one of the tests.
Interestingly. The games immediately outside the last 20 FC innings are a further 3 matches for NZ 'A'. Again 1 v India 'A' plus 2 v Pakistan 'A' in UAE.
This is 2 years ago by now. Late 2018.
But 'A' games are most relevant to judge ability to step up.
Scores in those 5 games were: 49, 28, 0, 23, 74 -

Scores in those 5 games were: 49, 28, 0, 23, 74Five hundreds including 2 NO. So averaging 123 in 5 innings and 26.69 across the other 15 - including a further 2 NO. Statistics can prove anything but I'd still say that isn't the consistency you'd want from someone being touted as much as Young
