@gt12 just watching game now (2nd half just started) thought he did exactly what was required in the 1st half, carried a few times, passed 4 or so other times, is often first or 2nd to breakdown, makes his tackles, I think he is doing exactly what is asked of him.
Is amusing watching the game after reading comments that's for sure. Its like some people have comments ready to post on certain players no matter what.
I haven't read through the whole thread, but I assumed there's never that much issue with how Savea plays, mostly it's around the balance of the loosies and his style of play?

@kpkanz the idea I’m pushing is using a player that plays 10 fulltime. Dmac doesn’t even play 10 at super level. The chiefs have had 10 woes and Dmac wasn’t seen as a long term of option there. He was replaced by his own brother at one stage. They had players that could slot into 15 to accomodate his staying at 10. Why do you think that didn’t happen?

I remember even at the time people on this board after that game agreed Dmac showed more potential than Mounga. But then the dual playmaker system started and Dmac was set at fullback with the 10/15 combo with BB before he got injured in 2019.
I've had zero starts at 10 for the AB's , I dont need any more to know i shouldn't be playing there...😉
Look, I think he's probably a great guy. But I've just seen zilch that tells me he has the on-field temperament ro play 10 in a big game for us. He still puts his team under pressure with his sideways running, and I don't think he has the kicking game from hand nor the physique for 80mins at 10.

Beaudens out of form, Mounga hasn't proven to be as effective as predicted. I'd like to see Dmac at 10 happen, only had the one start but was brilliant.
Against a French team already on the flight home.

@raznomore Because the AB coaches pushed for him to be played at 15. As I said, the one season he played 10 the entire time he got the Chiefs to the playoffs losing by one point away.

I have just rewatched first half and feel like the RM critics must have watched a different game - assume it will all go to shit in the 2nd. Only bad judgement I could see was his cross kick to JB when he could have possibly created a three on two overlap with loads of space 20 out from the line

Halfback behind A Smith, especially looking at the future. We desperately need Fakatava to get decent game time for the Highlanders to see if the talent he's shown at 1st XV and Mitre 10 Cup level also translates into being a good SR player. If it does, they need to chuck him in the ABs frame asap.
The only one in-between - from an age perspective - is Mitch Drummond at 26. (Bryn Hall is 28). TTT (25) is just too slow IMO and I've found Enari a bit disappointing thus far.

Halfback to look at - Xavier Roe ??
I am not convinced problems are solved at 8.
Hoskins Sotutu is still unproven at test level because he hasn't been given enough minutes.
He has played solidly, but nowhere near as well as Akira did with his time.
He is more direct but not much bigger than Savea. -
