@voodoo He had what one start against France? Where it was one of the best performances at 10 we've seen in years? Thats the only opportunity he got.
I remember even at the time people on this board after that game agreed Dmac showed more potential than Mounga. But then the dual playmaker system started and Dmac was set at fullback with the 10/15 combo with BB before he got injured in 2019.
I've had zero starts at 10 for the AB's , I dont need any more to know i shouldn't be playing there...😉
Look, I think he's probably a great guy. But I've just seen zilch that tells me he has the on-field temperament ro play 10 in a big game for us. He still puts his team under pressure with his sideways running, and I don't think he has the kicking game from hand nor the physique for 80mins at 10.
I honestly thought you were describing Richie M there

Good point re Taylor though. May be he's not as good at it? Or has different strengths so the tactics change to suit? Or another forward takes on that role?
Taylor has been employed on the wing, as is common for most hookers nowadays, especially after a lineout.
An example was in the 1st test against the Lions when Taylor scored on the right wing. I had a great view of that try from my seat. I don't think he is used there as often as Coles though.

I'm not advocating for him as a 10 but FFS his sideways running gets blown out of proportion.
He's had a much better run in tests (pre his injury) in form, than Jordie ever as - in the comparison of flighty fullbacks.
But, this new poster's fluffing of DMac is so over the top even I'm questioning my support of DMac.
-
Dmac at 10 scares the bejesus out of me. But he'd have more go forward (or at least scalded crab go sideways) than Richie. But there is more to 10 than running. He'd at least be a good goal kicker I suppose.

@gt12 just watching game now (2nd half just started) thought he did exactly what was required in the 1st half, carried a few times, passed 4 or so other times, is often first or 2nd to breakdown, makes his tackles, I think he is doing exactly what is asked of him.
Is amusing watching the game after reading comments that's for sure. Its like some people have comments ready to post on certain players no matter what
The Fern way.

@raznomore well he played first five up until his first Chiefs season where he was put at fullback to accomodate for Cruden at 10.
He also played at 10 the entire season for the Chiefs 2018 where he got them to the playoffs missing out on a semifinal spot losing to the Canes away by a point.
Even he himself has stated his preferred position is 10. This isnt a Jordie situation where we're just chucking him somewhere with no track record.Fact is, BB and Mounga havent exactly lit the world alight this year. Dmac is one of our more talented players, would be disappointing to see players not utilised fully.
Id rather we try with talented younger players than award caps to seniors who dont seem to have the same motivation as they did and are doubtful for the next world cup. (this is at BB specifically..) -

I haven't read through the whole thread, but I assumed there's never that much issue with how Savea plays, mostly it's around the balance of the loosies and his style of play?

@kpkanz the idea I’m pushing is using a player that plays 10 fulltime. Dmac doesn’t even play 10 at super level. The chiefs have had 10 woes and Dmac wasn’t seen as a long term of option there. He was replaced by his own brother at one stage. They had players that could slot into 15 to accomodate his staying at 10. Why do you think that didn’t happen?

@Nepia I was talking JG...having read the thread then watched the game, I was expecting a bit of a mare
My bad, I got confused! I blame the Sydney heat (and my poor reading and comprehension skills).
-
well can everyone agree there are problems at 10 and midfield?

@kpkanz said in Argentina Two: Newcastle, 28 November:
Does no one remember this game?
Beaudens out of form, Mounga hasn't proven to be as effective as predicted. I'd like to see Dmac at 10 happen, only had the one start but was brilliant.
Against a French team already on the flight home.

I have just rewatched first half and feel like the RM critics must have watched a different game - assume it will all go to shit in the 2nd. Only bad judgement I could see was his cross kick to JB when he could have possibly created a three on two overlap with loads of space 20 out from the line
