Bloody good signing for the Tahs - Whetton has had an excellent 2020.

Whetton obviously spent time in Aus, so not a biggie for him to go back I guess.

Main issue is his (and Caird's) long term ambitions, you have to think they are open to the idea of playing for the Wallabies down the track if the opportunity presents itself?

How in the fuck can we be losing talent like this to Oz when the Canes are rolling out 190cm loose forwards as starting locks?

Something appears to be a bit rotten with NZ rugby at the moment.

He already qualifies for both NZ and Aus, hence my question, I actually think he is choosing the dark(canary yellow) side

@gt12 He's not from Wellington so there's your answer with the Canes.

I missed that. I wonder if he flies straight to Aus after the NPC final? I rate him higher than a couple of the Aussie locks

Still think some good locks will miss contracts this year even with Whetton and Caird in NSW. Who is signed from Parsons Cridge Van den Hoven J Tucker Carroll Pierce Lord and Finau?

Letting? It’s an open market and Oz pay more, and more game time. None of them are in the ABs radar short term, they can come back too

@Yeetyaah They're good solid journeymen tbf, but we have locks in the country that are better. Good on them for getting contracts tbh.

Damn. I hope he has better luck with staying fit over in Aust.

The lose of Caird, Whetton, Tucker etc hits the provincial unions harder.

Was their any mention of their possible availability for the NPC?

No idea, but in the past the Aust SR teams have often prevented contracted NZ players from returning to play in the NPC.

We also have loose forward sized guys taking up locks spots too denying these guys contracts in their home country.

@chucknz Thanks. Shame to hear that. Just not enough starting and bench spots available here for the current depth. Opposite of situation for centres!
