@nzzp yeah I have said it before, if he isnt there, we dont score that, just highlights the importance he is to the team, particularly when they want to play at pace.
And the ruck work to help Aaron get clean ball.
It still amazes me how it all came together in those circumstances - the passing, ruck work, no one dropped a ball, offloads at pace, wide cut outs,
correct decision after correct decision

The confidence in what they were doing and players being on the same page whether in close or out wide.

@mariner4life-"correct decision after correct decision"
-->looks at 2020 AB games, stop it, it hurts! -
the major tragedy for me this year is Jack Goodhue. Such a fine rugby brain, vision, selfless, hardworking team man, but just too darned slow at 12.
Can he be resurrected? -

he seems to be in the right spot at the right time with 13 but then I should say seemed-can he have slowed down in just a year?
-
I'm not sure he is too slow for either, he has a rather unorthodox running style that doesnt look like he can run fast, he show a clean pair of heels in some tries he has scored in super and in black.
Am sure they test these guys all the time, and if he is getting slower already...
But if you are comparing him to Reiko, then yep, slow fucker.
-
I seem to remember the ABs hanging around with all the cool kids somewhere before...
Chicago

One reason I can see for having Jordie on the wing is it brings his defence more into play. Except he's making some poor decisions there at the moment and so it's not featuring. Probably why they're persisting so he gets used to it.
Although in saying that it was a feature in SRA when he was playing fullback...

I agree, I think he could be a really valuable player in the Conrad Smith role at 13. He's just not a natural 12 at all and I don't think he ever will be. It's one of many ridiculous selections we are seeing this year.

Thankfully this time we've already got out "first ever loss" out of the way so we can just cruise in this game. I mean what's another loss anyway? I'm sure we'll "get them back" next year. Sigh.

@No-Quarter first time losing 3 on the bounce this millennium?

Starting with Robertson and the Crusaders, right?

It was 100% a mistake playing him at 12 for the Saders and an even more ridiculous mistake playing him there at test level after he didn't shine in the position a level down.
-
The thinking behind Goodhue at 12 for the Saders was that after we lost Crotty there wasn’t a natural successor.
It was one of those combo decisions where there were two potential options in Goodhue and Havili.
Havili was also the best fullback in the Saders squad.
Then add to the mix that Razor wanted Ennor to transition to the wing.
So you have a 10+ test All Black in Goodhue that has attributes to play 2nd 5 but will take some time.
I think it’s worth persisting with but it’s going to take time as we have seen for others that have transitioned from wing or centre to 2nd 5.

Thanks for the blast from the past, great to see those players again, in form.
Aaron smith was sensational, got to every damn ruck fast it seemed
The thing I remember about that try was Nonu's coolness under pressure in the move before Crotty scored.
The ball bobbling along the ground to Nonu who just kept still, sized up the options, picked up the ball and ran at 45% to tie up 3-4 Irish defenders. Quick ruck ball, defence stretched and Crotty scores.
We need some of that headspace in the ABs right now.

You'd like to think that Fozzie trusts ALB & Goodhue enough to work out which position is best for each other depending on how the game is going. Perhaps that's the plan.
-
One thing which Wobs did when taking contact against the Pumas was to put in a small step just before contact. Meant Puma tackler had to readjust and less solid contact.
ALB was very effective at that when 12 late in Argy 1. Don’t think it’s in Jack’s toolkit.
Nonu had a great step early in career, but rarely seemed to need to use it at 12.
Horan was amazing at that in 1999 semi against Boks.
