Didn't he at one stage throw a pass into a huge empty space between the ABs just as they began to look dangerous? Maybe I was dreaming that one or it was a player lookalike.

Also, have an issue (and have for a long time) with two lines of offense when the pass goes behind the first line and they keep running into the defensive line.
Perhaps a rant for a whole new thread, but maybe there's a need for a law amendment such that if the ball goes/is behind you you can't keep moving forward. Need to think that one through further ...
It's a trained skill that you have to get the timing on so that it doesn't look like gridiron, but yes, it fucks me off no end. At one stage England were masters of putting random players in the way of forwards coming across field toward the breakdown. Happy to sacrifice a few backs from the next phase if it meant that the first planned ruck was quick ball.
As for the early shoves of Ardie at the line out I think Sam talked to the ref about danger, the ref said he had it under watch but then just before the next line out called out to the ABs not to delay bringing him down. Seemed to think we were looking to milk it. Once he had that mindset he was never going to keep hammering the convicts.

Yes, because that is exactly what they were trying to do. And it is against the Laws:
29 Once the lineout has commenced, any player in the lineout may:
a. Compete for possession of the ball.
b. Catch or deflect the ball. A jumper may catch or deflect the ball with the outside arm only if they have both hands above their head. Sanction: Free-kick.
c. Lift or support a team-mate. Players who do so must lower that player to the ground safely as soon as the ball is won by either team. Sanction: Free-kick.
d. Leave the lineout so as to be in a position to receive the ball, provided they remain within 10 metres of the mark of touch and they keep moving until the lineout is over. Sanction: Free-kick.
e. Grasp and bring an opponent in possession of the ball to ground, provided that the player is not in the air. Sanction: Penalty. -

Let's remember he's still using the AB playbook from 2013 which basically has this as a core principle.
There is always this in 'playing the rules' but there is also carrying it to extremes. Dummy runners (thank you Brumbie-ball) have been used for decades to manipulate the thinking of the defence. Where it becomes blatant is when you have a system that sends players 1,2,3 and 4 into the field area of the defending team with the sole intent to block the runner lines of repositioning players. Refs and assistants are never looking at this and the laws make it difficult to call obstruction as it is far away from play. It doesn't obstruct players making a tackle or competing for the ball but it does obstruct them deliberately in repositioning.
TBH I don't notice the ABs doing it much. We tend to obstruct with chasing/ retreating running lines rather than using the allowance of offside runners to place them as 'blockers' -

Didn't see ours.
As hinted at above that may be due to looking at different things when various teams have the ball.
But more likely because you cheat more.

The problem with England's approach is that their guys are running directly into the opposition's defensive line and obstructing guys from drifting across.
