@kiwiinmelb i'd like to see everything short of deliberate foul play or punches dialled back a step,
so like scrums and single off sides kind of stuff is a free kick (repeated becomes a penalty), poor form or accidents become penalties and then leave the cards for the really grievous stuff
At the risk of starting World War 2, and whilst I understand the rules mandate it, but there being an automatic yellow card for what Scott Barrett did seems to me absurd.
Neither dangerous, nor thwarting a try, just stupid. A penalty in that situation is an entirely sufficient sanction.
Nah, straight up deliberate fouls probably deserve it
There's a big difference between your opinion of deserved, and what is normal. I like yellows for this sort of thing, but this is the first I have seen one for it. Imo it was an incorrect decision, it was not consistent with all those that have gone before.
He's an idiot and it should be a yellow, imo, same as accidental high shot should be an orange card (10 mins off, someone else comes back). But shouldn't have happened in this game, not until guidance is changed and communicated with teams.

You mean The Laws of Rugby?
-
@Machpants I don’t think it’s just mine, I think serval had said he deserves it
I guess my starting point is deliberate things, and yes sometimes it’s hard to tell, but deliberate things should cop a harsher penalty

@pakman Absurd until it happens at every attacking ruck in a 22.
Didn't Whitelock get away with it at the death of a super game that basically won the Crusaders the game?
It's only cheating if you get caught. SB's one was so obvious, deserved what he got
This reminds me of my dad watching US cop shows. Cop says I’m charging you with an offence under section 524 and Dad says, ‘ for overacting’.
Ten minutes in bin for tapping White’s hand seems disproportionate, but giving Scooter a yellow for crass stupidly seems justified!

@pakman care to elaborate?
Sneaky hands on ball at ruck is obvious one.
Isn't that a "not so sneaky" case we're talking about? Seems to get penalised a lot and would be YC'd in similar circumstances I'm sure.

Should really think about that before responding, but biggest difference was doing it 'in broad daylight'. Hands in bottom of ruck 40 metres out seldom yields yellow card?

We seldom see it done so recklessly and stupidly. If a guy is just going to mess up a breakdown with such brazen disregard just because, I'm happy to see him get punished further regardless of where it occurs. Play like that should be stamped out, obviously the threat of a penalty wasn't enough for stupido.

Anyone know where us UK Ferners can watch 'missing' minutes 54-59?
Here’s a preview
🤮😡🙄
Found it:
Reece drops kick off.
BB fails to put clearance in stands. Quick throw and Wobs advance to five yards out. Rieko and ALB inside out in defence. Scrum.
Savea reaches into scrum as Tupou splits Hodgman off.
Box kick from next ruck not out. Knock on by Wobs.
Scrum. Tupou/Bell destroy AB front row. Penalty. 14-15.
So :face_with_open_mouth_cold_sweat:
That is why Karl T is in squad. And why Nepo gets into my 23 against Pumas.

Yeah I didn't mean you specifically, because it's my opinion too. I meant is not how the offence had been punished in any other game I've seen before.

Man in front of kicker?
Going to need arrows and lines drawn on it mate. Holds no credence around here otherwise.

If that is the kickoff after Vaa'i's try, half the Wallaby team was offside.
Hodge missed penalty at around 64th minute.
