Random thoughts in no particular order.
Frizzel got stopped a few times eh, but really happy with his game. His workrate was immense, I'd be really interested in seeing stats for carries/tackles/rucks. In saying that, be interested to see what the other options can do now and if they'll be as amazeballs as all the Frizzel knockers think they'll be.
Topped the tackle count on both stats websites.
High up for carries as well. Is there anywhere that does breakdown stats?
I just don't trust any of these stats, makes you wonder whose numbers the coaches use. For the fatties, I know they track closely dominant tackles , first 3 to breakdowns, repeat efforts, gain line breaches amongst other stuff.
Whether you trust them or not, feel free to use stats to back up your favourite player or make another one look like they are hopeless 😎

On big Karl, yea looked like he is placing it back for the 9, which was pretty luck really cos if he doesnt score himself with 3 men outside....
I was just so happy when he caught the ball ! I think it would have been asking too much for him to pass as well!
Expect there’s still some nerves. Karl’s route to top hasn’t involved anywhere near as much top rugby as others. I think he was happy to catch, saw a massive hole which he took with aplomb, but wasn’t alert to what was outside him.
Had been training for battering ram role all week.
Hope they have a gentle word to him.
The side step for someone of his geometry was something to behold but sure if he had fukked it up it could have been career ending

Return to the status quo. Halfback has always been our weakest position historically.
It's been a treat having a Rolls Royce halfback for the better part of a decade after always being outmatched.

Noticed that a couple of times, and penalised for it once. But popped Hodgman into space once and that seemed more legal. What LHs try on THs all the time.
Having only seen the replays on the big screen at the ground, I found it interesting that the ABs got a penalty for going forward well after Hodgman and Tupou both popped at one scrum, given the was a reset earlier. The old adage is that LHs drive up while THs drive down. But after a couple of actions any prop with his beer will decide how to play it depending on feel.
Having done a few referring courses the direction is generally to tick the boxes for safety (binding on the arm is an easy one to ping) then make a decision to prevent endless resets.

I don’t believe in the term gifted. The Wallabies are professional sportsmen and they were outmuscled and out thought in that first half and they made some poor decisions but to say gifted suggests they had given up on the game

After a rewatch, the ABs scrum fared much better when Hodgman and Lomax came in (or was it when Ala'atoa and Slipper went off ?). They won two penalties and there were no more resets. I don't remember who on this forum who wrote that Hodgman got monstered at least one time by Tupou. In that peculiar scrum, after being caught initially, Hodgman stood up and drove forward to win his contest against Tupou.

You can only play the team in front of you. The improvement in the All Blacks measured in three games against the same opposition has been pretty damn good.
What was impressive was the execution in that first half.

I'm on the fence here. I actually thought we played the conditions perfectly in that first half. @mariner4life makes a fair point just feeding off mistakes rather than creating anything but that's how you play in wet conditions. Compare and contrast to similar conditions in Wellington a few weeks ago. Coles' try for example was in my view one of the best tries we've scored in years in terms of the decision-making and execution - defensive pressure to force a turnover, a quick decision to move the ball away from most of their defenders, a good decision to kick with good execution, a fantastic chase to force the turnover, and then a slickly executed set piece to set up a maul to pushover for the try.
What's not to love about that? Teams like England and South Africa who everyone's jizzing over at the moment - and who would definitely beat the ABs - base their entire existence on doing shit like that.
I agree, it all kinda went to shit in the 2nd half, but again there was still some excellent wet weather play in there (Rieko's try being the prime example).

Decent but not outstanding maul, simple phase to the posts and then switch back. Same as every other team in the world does. And we have a 4 on 1 overlap? That's appalling
They were a man short down that side anyway. But, it's a move that needs to be used more in that area, because it's simple and it works.

"We had Opta but only for some generic stats. We had an in-house analyst who would give us more specific stats as we were after our own measures.
Definitely need your own analyst and I recon there is room for much better than Opta." -

Rob Simmons came on after 45. The scrum was at 66.40. Hodgman's toenails were the only thing touching dirt.
I thought Oz scrum had slight advantage in first half, with Slipper giving Ofa a few problems. Exacerbated by NZ loosies dropping off on Oz ball. Fine on ours. -
On my rewatch I noticed Pat does a lot more work than is reported in the stats, but he does basically use his bulk as a defensive wall then turn a bit slowly. Sam W. was a titan. He will leave a big gap when he retires.
Coles was just fantastic, not just his running but his reading of the Wallabies.
Clarke draws so many Wallabies, worth a few points that.
So good to see no hesitation at the base from Smith but I noticed shocking passes from TJP, one of which was just not so obvious because ALB is so athletic-outshined Goodhue who was solid but nothing too amazing.
I really like what Sotutu offers, such a lovely distributor at 8 and always going forwards.
Yes Frizzel was working hard and quietly put the work in if no big hits but I still wonder what other options are at 6. It would be nice to have a bit of variety off the bench esp if Savea's future is uncertain.
BB's kicking was mostly pinpoint perfection but made some defensive blunders. -

South Africa, France and Wales seem to breed good halfbacks the way NZ breeds good 7s and 11s
