No kids, any regrets?

Slightly off topic but it's always nice going to WINZ if you ever need motivation or to feel better about yourself. Some years back I had to go through the processes as I had been made redundant and the payout money was starting to dwindle.
I was thinking the same thing (having been through that redundancy thing, and thought I'd talk to WINZ about my options)
sure they (people at WINZ) likely deal with some of the real scum of society and it must wear them down, but plenty still need to learn how to deal with people better.

That old quandary, increasing money to feed/house innocent kids vs rewarding lazy skanky bitch.
Yep. I had a Vicky Pollard renting a place off me for a while. Five or six kids by the time she left. Never missed a rent payment, though. Thanks WINZ.

The paperwork that myself and the ex wife had to go through was absolutely ridiculous. We had to set aside an entire afternoon just to get things done, not easy with a toddler and newborn.
I have no idea how genuine ferals even get on the DPB, do case managers just look at them, shrug their shoulders and approve their applications ?
But as you allude to, fuck working at WINZ, no wonder there is security at every site just in case feral families don't get more money approved in time when female feral pops out baby number eight.

I think you mean thank us, the tax payers

It just seems unfair that people who want to can't
then you get the ferals that cant stop having kids, and damn well should never have started...but I expect that is a thread all on it's own.
That reminds me @Virgil, how is young Metallica these days?

great memory!
Not sure, havent heard about her in yonks. Tried for ages to pressure my girls into befriending her...apparently thats bad parenting...

@MN5 we deal with people on WINZ. Some are genuinely in a tough spot and they are often the ones who have no idea what they can claim for. Others seem to know exactly what they are eligible for and know what to say, pro WINZers

I totally get that, I knew it was there for me if I needed it and had no qualms about going on the dole for a bit after years and years of honest tax paying.
But yeah, some will go on it and never get off. Mental or physical illness sure, but also just laziness.

Haha, it's not a name you forget !

No, and we have genuine concerns for her future. Given that her parents named her Metallica the kid may not have had the best upbringing, parental role models, not to mention the bullying at school and chance of employment with Metallica as the first word on her CV.
This thread can get a bit depressing.

As long as she's happy then nothing else matters.

A slight tangent on this seeing (some) parents try to gatekeep what education should look like, and that folks without kids should have less (or no!) say. It's like get the fuck out of here brah, education and those kids are going to contribute to what NZ looks like in the future so everyone has a vested interest, kids or not.
I am increasingly concerned that the fern is the most nuanced and empathetic space for conversation in my life at the moment... actually I've just upgraded from concerned to terrified lol

A visit to a politics thread should remedy that.

@Mokey after all you’ve been through and you still support the Chiefs? 😉
Thanks for sharing your story sister.
My view is that the more people come to understand that having children is actually a privilege and not a ‘right’ or ‘should just happen’, the greater compassion and understanding they will have for those that can’t or choose not to. Unfortunately some people will always feel the need to judge others and so ask unnecessary questions and say inappropriate stuff.
