And also being fair, last year we got a similar AB reaction at Eden Park when George was brought in and played well (though this won't be a popular point)
He did, no doubt. But what's damning is, does yesterday's game go as well if Bridge had played? I would say no given the positive impact Clarke had on the side. Bridge is a good player, but he's not what this team needs.
-
@mariner4life Probably not - though the ABs did win by an even larger margin last year. Case could be made that we could have done better yesterday if George had shifted to the right wing.
I'm not going to argue for him over Clarke though, because that's a loser - and anyone who has followed the tenor of my posts here over the years knows that I'm a big fan of size and power in rugby.

The thing about last year was the Perth performance was abysmal, way more abysmal than last weeks performance. And in the Eden Park game the team, played a lot better than this weeks performance. So basically what I'm saying is the wings had little to do with the improvement last year, but it's arguable Clarke had a huge bearing on the improved performance this week.
Edit: Should have read the post above yours @mariner4life basically said the same thing.

Two games in and has blooded Vaa’i , Hodgeman, Sotutu, Clarke and PUJ. We are getting more miles on the clock for Mounga and we are able to enjoy having robust and experienced back rows and midfield. Sort of understand what the are hoping to get with Goodhue 12 and ALB 13, something similar to Nonu and Smith. A Ioane and Will Jordan still to come but you would hope they get a shot Bled 3 or 4 depending on injuries and whether we have already won the series. Not much to quibble about overall, I had thought Cane was the wrong choice as Captain but definitely proved me wrong, showing himself to be better as an 80minute player. Not sold on Jordie as a wing and I am happier with BB at full back but do understand that they wanted him on the field.

This video suggests the wings made a pretty reasonable contribution to the improvement last year.

How is Fozzie going thread has quickly turned to an in-depth description of the wingers.
Not convinced that wing is Fozzie's best position.
And not convinced that if wing has been so crucial to AB play this year or last year that it was because of Fozzie's coaching.
The few orchestrated moves I saw over the last 2 games, at least in the backline, did not look that successful. Unless he is coaching spontaneity to Beauden and bowling to Clarke. -

Does Fozzie even really matter?
holy shit. How many "well dur" articles are you reading at the moment?
Ben Darwin spends an enormous amount of time looking at numbers to reach conclusions everyone already knows.

Sadly when it comes to rugby journalism, dur articles are all you get!

Yeah. We used to call them "combinations" or even a "team".
This could be of interest to Fozzie (assuming anyone believes it):
"Ask a rugby player – in either code – to wear a different number on his back and fulfil a slightly less familiar role in a big game and, on average, his team score seven points fewer per game."

ask Christian Cullen. Ask Mils Muliaina. Ask Taine Randell. the list is endless. Again Ben, shit everyone knows!!
-
@mariner4life Yeah, except our coach it seems.

I find that difficult to believe given how few times a settled team plays the same opposition. Sounds like someone's analysis consists of a pivot table and subtracting two averages...

I did say "(assuming anyone believes it)".

Can we judge Foster on playing an Australian side rebuilding or a very underdone Argentina.
Real test will come against teams like SA and England who have very good defensive systems.
Which we have struggled to unlock recently.
We may live in a false bubble this season until we really get tested. -
