Hurricanes 2021

James Blackwell signed until the end of 2023
Vaea Fifita signed until the end of 2021 -
@Canes4life gutted

@mikey07 Yeah, the stupidity level in this one is huge. If you don't have a better option at this moment, sign him for one year. Who knows what talent comes through in the years after. I think there are a few talented youngsters coming through the ranks in all three provinces.

Who the hell thought it was a good idea to offer Blackwell a 3 year deal.
Hes barely Ok at NPC level. Any coach who signs a player like Blackwell for 3 years and then even worse starts him week after week will never win the title. Its a make up the numbers coach

@Stargazer Plumtree and Delany alone are already better than Blackwell.

Having just watched Wellington v Otago, it's clear that Julian Savea shouldn't get a SR contract, but I'm really afraid he'll get one, just because he's an ex-Cane, ex-AB, who may attract some crowd. I'd much rather see them replace Ben Lam with Lolagi Visinia, if they're looking for a power winger. I don't think the Canes need a midfielder, but I'm sure there would be better midfielders they could sign, too.
Really, I'll be banging my head against a brick wall if someone like Jonah Lowe, who has been very good thus far for the Magpies, doesn't get re-signed (I don't have any idea about that), and Jules does. But the Hurricanes selectors aren't really that good ...
-
@Stargazer Julian Savea is crap, if he gets a Canes contract I’ve lost all faith in whoever the player selectors are.
Jonah Lowe isn’t much chop either from what I’ve seen. The fact you seem to bring him into almost every conversation is pretty funny. He tries hard but doesn’t stand out.
I’d rather the Canes actually look outside the 3 provinces for once and go for someone like McKay or Mataele. They are both better than Lowe, Visinia and the aging Savea.
-
Also Rayasi looks odds on to grab Lam’s spot, unless he’s playing for the Sevens.
-
@Canes4life You haven't been watching the Magpies games well. Lowe was outstanding in the first few rounds, both offensively and defensively, all with a great workrate. He helped set up several tries (actually surprising me by showing a great leg drive I didn't know he had) and prevented some from the opposition.
I rate Mataele, but he has become a lot slower (probably because he's become a lot bigger) and has butchered quite a few opportunities (lots of handling errors). McKay didn't stand out for the Highlanders, apart from preventing that almost certain Bryn Hall try. Good workrate for Canterbury; maybe good for Kobus van Wyk's spot as third choice. Visinia is a try-scoring power winger; McKay can only dream of being one.
-
@Stargazer I have actually and he hasn’t been spectacular. He’s been solid but hasn’t shouted select me from what I’ve seen. Stacey Ili is the guy that’s been on fire for Hawkes Bay, not Lowe.

WTF are you on about. Lowe has been the best Magpies back full stop this year. Ili, who I’m a fan of (more so than @Stargazer) hasn’t reached his good form of last year yet.
You’re taking the piss.
