Blues v Chiefs

There is a certain irony in yesterday afternoons cliff hanger.
Running along the end of Waikato Stadium is a wonderful wall mural recording Waikato and Chiefs history. On this wall is a page on the Chiefs which recalls the successful 2012/13 years. It mentions the coaches Rennie and Smith, which of course is correct, but omits the forwards coach ,the very unsung Tom Coventry. That he has helped coach the Blues forwards in their latest victories over his former team is probably worthy of mention. The biggest turnaround in 2012 to the previous regime was the performance of the set piece, and the Chiefs becoming accurate at ruck time. it was noticeable from about Round 3 that the team had changed significantly

NZ referee boss Bryce Lawrence said in an interview on newshub that Pickerill made the wrong call as Goodhue was off his feet. Twice in two weeks.
if the two muppets hadn't completely fucked up the Cruden cross kick it wouldn't matter.

Didn't he mean Kaleb Trask was off the ground when he was tackled after a botched blues defensive lineout immediately after a yc warning. Tackled in the air, yc handed out right under the sticks.
I thought that was the most galling forsaking of the laws, of the many on display.
Full credit to the players giving us a decent finish in spite of a woeful game of refereeing.

Good article with sense from Leon

@taniwharugby on newshub they did, dunno why there isn't an article posted yet. He had a knee on the ground.

To my eyes the ball was short, but Goodhue off his feet so another penalty.Sad to say these incorrect calls at this part of the game are common place, players not supporting their bodies, but the human error factor of referees unfortunately cost teams big time.
Really all you can say is bad luck Chiefs for two weeks on end ,.....beat the Crusaders next week and hopefully all will be forgotten! -
Funny how the laws have changed,Back in the day hands werenβt allowed in the rucks and now no rucking allowed. That last charge at the line yesterday by the Chiefs in older days would have had skin flying in all directions, finishing up with an all in brawl.A very sedate game now at breakdown!

Just been watching the game. At the ground, it seemed like the Blues got the poo end of the stick pretty frequently. Re-watching, it's just as brutal ...some weird interpretations about supporting bodyweight, not rolling, etc. It's just a bit frustrating really.
You know the ref has been average when both sets of fans are grizzling.

@nzzp orrrrr....it's the blues and a team that's lost 7 on the trot
yeah, the last call was baffling, but given what led up to it my sympathy levels have drastically reduced.
As @tim said I think - suck it up and get better

@Tim Lol if the Blues fans/players considered moaning about the refs over the last 5-10 years people would just laugh at us
