Blues v Chiefs

@ploughboy Yup fair. I still stand by what I say though haha.

As irritated as Chiefs supporters may be by the final penalty, the first try was a disgraceful abrogation of Pickerill's application of the laws.
All players not participating at the scrum remain at least five metres behind the hindmost foot of their team.

That looked so obvious to me when watching the game.

It was obvious but had no effect - if a defender was taken out, I would have more sympathy, but he went so early and got his timing so wrong that it literally had zero impact.

I'm fucked off NZR haven't activated Sports Ears for SRA because I like to know what the penalties are for and to hear the communication between the ref and ARs.
I usually have Radio Sport (or whatever it is called nowadays) on, when I go to a game. Sometimes you can hear the ref via the radio, or at least you have the radio commentary that explains what's happening.

What’s the prognosis on Alaimalo?

Flattened by an unnecessary shot.
It’s been a bugbear of mine for a long time. Players diving late on a try scorer or sliding in at them.
Always carries a high risk of injury. -
@Crucial do we know how bad the injury is? I reckon he may have been a shot for the North / South match.

Still no idea what BP pulled out of his arse at the end there,
Newshub say:
They seemed to have achieved that in the dying moments, when No.8 Pita Gus Sowakula dove for the line, but was ruled to have knocked on and the Blues won a clearing penalty.Well that’s the end of the complaints then, doesn’t matter what’s happened after the knock on.
Good defence.
Not releasing the player is the first offence. I couldn’t see any obvious knock on.
The ruling was holding on so Newshub have no idea. -

it's easier if you shorten it
seriously, though, I haven't seen a knock on, but to be honest I can't see anything in the footage and BP was pretty clear. You'd have to be sure as a ref, to turn a game on a call like that. It's just annoying that after a tussle like that we're talking about one refs call rather than rugby
-
@taniwharugby and another example of how that happens all the time without being pinged- and usually there are no effects either. It's just really unlucky, and sad for Alaimalo
-
@taniwharugby said in Blues v Chiefs:
@nzzp yup, players get pinged if they dive on someone in general play like that but is ok over the try line.
yep, but the context is different. Try scoring can involve weird body positions and contacts as you try and stop the ball getting grounded - or position for loose/dropped balls. Players commit hard as it's the last thing that happens, and post-scoring contact will happen.

There is a certain irony in yesterday afternoons cliff hanger.
Running along the end of Waikato Stadium is a wonderful wall mural recording Waikato and Chiefs history. On this wall is a page on the Chiefs which recalls the successful 2012/13 years. It mentions the coaches Rennie and Smith, which of course is correct, but omits the forwards coach ,the very unsung Tom Coventry. That he has helped coach the Blues forwards in their latest victories over his former team is probably worthy of mention. -
