@mikey07 Won't Barrett go into 10?
Is that what the Canes are hoping for?
Beauden to take pity on them not having a decker option and swapping jerseys to even the game up?I think that is referring to Jordie
Perenara went to 10 second half last wk.

Every game so far TJ has gone to ten late game
Oh wrong ABs 10 playing at 15 Barrett

@Stargazer PUJ has performed strongly every time he's donned the Canes jersey and he's a far stronger option than the limited Lowe who is forever on the injury list.
@Stargazer said in Hurricanes v Blues:
I assume Lowe will be without a contract next year and that that's why he doesn't get any opportunity.
No, the reason he doesn't get opportunities is that he's always injured. Stop using this Wellington bias thing as a reason for HB player non-selection. It's a load of tripe.

@Canes4life Lowe has played club rugby for weeks, now. He recovered from his injury more than a month ago (it could be longer).
PU-J has had his own injury issues, by the way. PU-J and Lowe aren't necessarily competing for the same spot(s) in the line-up. -
@Stargazer I'm not sure where you're going with your argument. First you're talking about Wellington bias in saying the reason why players like Proctor / PUJ get selected over Aso, Lowe and Toala is because the coaches watch more Wellington rugby. What a load of crap.
Firstly, Aso has played a tone more than any of those Wellington players. Lowe is just a bit average to me and he hasn't shown anything that screams 'pick me' / also he's made of glass. While Toala I'm sure will get his shot at some point, he's still only 20 isn't he?
If the Hurricanes are so bias towards Wellington players, why wasn't the likes of Teariki Ben Nicholas / Connor Garden Bachop signed after performing well in the ITM Cup? Why has Wes Goosen lost the right wing spot to Van Wyk? Why does PUJ keep dropping out of the 23 when Aso is available, why is Fifita on the bench behind Prinsep? I can't see any of the Wellington bias that you HB fans keep harping on about.
-
How can you say Lowe is average if he has hardly played in the Canes jersey*? He has been excellent for the Bay, but simply hasn't been given opportunities to play at SR level in yellow and black. He has been injured a lot, yes, but even when recovered, they don't select him. He's known to be a hard trainer, was and is super fit (won Surf to Peak) etc.
[* He has played 69 minutes spread over 3 seasons for the Canes (He got 11 minutes off the bench in 2018; 18 minutes off the bench and 40 minutes from an unexpected start (due to the player named to start dropping out) in 2019. Injured pre-covid, but available for SRA.]
PS. My bias argument had more to do with Holland's history with the Hurricanes age-grade teams. I should indeed have left Aso out of that. It was more an illustration of Holland's limited selection capabilities than anything else.

Players not considered with injury: Jared Page (hamstring), Stephen Perofeta (fractured foot), Tom Robinson (knee), James Parsons (concussion), Hoskins Sotutu (knee), Jared Page (hamstring), Dan Carter (calf).
So....Page injured both hamstrings?

I don't think it's good for the game that the Blues are holding all the good loose forwards. Somebody should think of the poor Crusaders having to play Sanders and Douglas on the weekend. Surely one of the Blues could be sent down to Christchurch to help them out.
Exactly. It was never going to be easy up against a big bruising loose trio unit of the Blues when we were missing Read, McCaw, Todd, Tuiali’i, Thorne and George Whitelock.

So many options for that last spot

Blues are crazy continuing to play Beauden at 15. From a Canes POV the less he gets the ball the better.
-
This is going to be a cracker. The race for second place; given where the Blues have been, coming second in this comp is a massive achievement. We've built a quality pack for the future, and shoudl continue to improve.
That said, this is an injury hit side. Missing a fair few people that could make a difference, and playing away. Canes selections seem 'interesting', but I can't see this being anything but an arm wrestle that is decided by a few points only.
