The thing that irks me about this as someone who works in politics is that he is an advisor, not an MP.
One of the golden rules of political advisory is you never become the story. You don't appear in the story, you don't give quotes, you are a ghost. As soon as you break that rule you should probably resign.
At this point in the story, it's not really relevant if he broke rules or not. He's a distraction and if I were him I'd have handed in my notice three days ago.

Hence the hatred of him. A lot of people just absolutely can't stand him.

Anybody notice the media scrum not observing social distancing?
The very accusation they've levelled at Cummings?🙂
The media just love winding people up.I haven't seen them accusing Cummings of not social distancing, or if they have it is as an aside to him travelling around the country when people were asked not to.
He hasn't committed any great crime worthy of lynching, but in the eyes of many he looks self-entitled and justifying at a time when they have made sacrifices.
I described early on in another thread how a friend of mine over there had lost their father and the situation was may more 'complicated' than Cummings. His mother had to grieve alone. No visits from family to comfort her, was suffering the anguish that goes along with losing your partner of 40 odd years. Had a strong family support network that stayed at home, including her daughters. This was all because they followed the 'stay at home' instruction that Cummings thought had a low threshold of personal importance.
This friend of mine is understandably livid at the bloke, and at Boris for supporting him. He won't be the only one. That's not the press winding people up.That is the press seeking an apology on their behalf.
That very sad story hits the whole issue firmly on the head.

They should get the same as Cummings should, both from their political parties and the media. I hold out very little hope for either
100%
I wrote on my Labour supporting mate's Facebook post that Starmer would fire Cummings if he was PM, but he isn't, so he can't.
But he is Labour Party Leader and can fire the first two - not sure about Gething - but hasn't.
Tumbleweed.

Mate just messaged me this

It very much looks like that was his preferred solution, not his only one, and many other people held fast and did not stretch the boundaries because it simply suited them better.
I get your point, but it's pure surmise he had other options. (see my final point)
He needs to apologise at least to everyone who didn't travel to visit family after a death or also had 'complicated' situations that they found the less preferable option to take.
Sorry, don't understand this. Are you saying he should apologise because he was in a better position to look after his kid ?
Boris has painted himself in a corner here and is taking the 'double down' approach. This could really come back to bite him in the future.
It's a disaster for BoJo and biting him right now. This has been handled so badly, it beggars belief. The press were pushing a story full of holes and they almost shrugged their shoulders.
But worse thing for me is the lack of thought or support given to Downing St staff when they were in bad personal situation. Did no-one ring Cummings and offer support or think of how it would look?
-
@Victor-Meldrew as per my post. It is about the optics far more than the details.
The story about a 30 mile drive to test your eyes is only made more farcical but him expecting that it could be sold. Does he really think the public is that gullible.
To your point, do the party media advisors think that story was saleable? -

Having watched Cummings yesterday, I have a lot of sympathy for him. Came across as genuine.
I'd resign for the lack of support from his employer when he & his family were ill - and demand an apology for that.

Comedy Gold 😂😂😂
It's obvious to the blind let alone the myopic - or those self-diagnosing via automobile - that Cummings doesn't take calls, he makes them.
He doesn't listen or answer to anyone at Downing St.

Starmer gets it right

No. The more I look at this, the more angry I get at BoJo's & No. 10's handling of it.

Lack of support? I think the last few days destroys that theory ... Boris is risking everything to support him.
Most amazing thing for with this is that he's taking personal abuse outside his home and Thornberry is openly, publicly supporting it (as Cumming lives in her constituency).
Thats a sackable offence is my view.

So where is his can carrying for Kinnock, Ali, and Gething?
Hot fucking air. It must be in every politician's DNA.

I was more referring to when his wife was ill and he was concerned about his kid and when when he was in Durham.
Did no-one think to call him and check out the situation he was in, both personally and politically and review/provide advice on the situation when he came back?
It's a matter of looking after your staff when they are in a tricky situation and not being so cavalier with the public's perception and how they have gone along with the advice.
That's what pisses me off about Johnson and how this has been handled.

Is that why BoJo disappeared for a bit? Cummings wasn't there with his hand up his arse making the mouth work?
