So does the leadership group ever get formally announced?

If it’s another 5 then I’d go with: Coles, Patty T, Whitelock, TJ and Barrett B. Don’t they often have young guys in the group (Cane and McCaw were by all accounts IIRC, appointed early in their AB careers), so someone like Mounga could be there?

    No Aaron Smith?

@canefan yep, considering Smith and Mo'unga are the starter 9/10, I don't see how you couldn't have them there. Taylor would probably be involved in some capacity.

@Bones I had those 2 on my list, though I speculated and restricted the final group to 5. No idea how big the group is actually; it’s probably fluid.

    Pleased with this.

Does the hard yards, never gives up and we always seem to play that little bit better when he's on the field.

And he has that look in his eye when the going gets tough - a more determined, different look to Read's wild-eyed expression when things aren't going well.

Should have started in Yokohama. Still can't believe it....

World rugby has put up full replay, which I hadn't seen before.

Watched first half. Ardie wasn't bad, but always just off at breakdown. A fit Sam may have affected a couple of turnovers, and would have been more effective covering for Ritchie M's tackling weakness, which lead to two of England's three best breaks.

His non-selection wasn't the dumbest thing we did on the field that day

    Not by a long chalk.

I still think we gave England far too easy a ride in the first 5-10 minutes. Cane's physical presence would have blunted England's attack and stopped them getting on the front foot so early.

Joe Moody missed a lot of tackles that night. Probably his worst performance in a black jersey.

I guess you haven't heard about that day Joe put on a black v-neck and proceeded to accidentally run over his neighbours cat, dropped his lunch on the floor (carpet) on the way out to the deck and then to top it all off had a sloppy shit where half of it sprayed on that top ledge bit of the bowl. Bought an instant kiwi that was a dud too.

Congratulations to Sam Cane. Some achievement to come back from a broken neck in October 2018 to become ABs skipper in 2020

@Canes4life Ardie is not an 8 or even a 6. We need more size at these positions.

@broughie that's what I reckon too. If Sam is starting then Ardie is on the bench. It's pretty disappointing if Ardie is considered the best starting 8 (or 6) in NZ. He's just too small.

Don’t have a problem with it with what’s available.

Now, if only we had some games to see how it goes .

@Toddy NZ's best player last year on the bench? I don't think so. Who would be ahead of him?

He's also the best loose forward for the All Blacks over the last year - 18 months. Size ain;t everything, if we can get a decent third loosie.

    Pretty good start Fossie.

Or a continuation of his old Chiefs selection strategy? Waikato stacking? 😉

It must remembered outside of Cane and Ardie it's a very raw/green loose forward talent pool.

Sotutu, Grace, Jacobson, Papalii, Frizell etc etc.

I think having Ardie and Cane both starting is the ticket in the short-medium term.

Best bet for me is 6. Big mofo like Grace or Sotutu 7. Cane 8. Savea (he's a better 8 than 6 as he can use his speed off the back of the scrum here).

I think he has been given the job with an eye to him being the right man to transition to a new regime. Whitelock carries to look of the last setup and is probably also carrying some 'blame' of not leading by example in the semi.
If there is a desire to get some new blood and a tougher forward edge then Cane is the man who will hit hard and set the tone.
