Sam Cane - All Blacks Captain

Foster says that they have delayed the announcement for a month so we would have known already but for covid-19. Interesting that Cane was approached several months ago about taking the role, probably not long after Foster was appointed. I do remember him saying he had decided on his captain back then.

While I think he is the best man for the job, seems odd to name him given the uncertainty going forward, although I guess around now is when he'd have been named for the June series?
**> I can't even remember who was supposed to be coming haha...was it Wales?

Does the AB captain get paid more?.....and the Scots.
Fucken typical. Using a lame excuse like a worldwide pandemic to avoid getting thrashed.

Where is BSG? Cane, Williamson and Burling all 1-2 years apart from each other at TBHS? Crazy.
Assuming Foster is looking at this with a two year timeline then it's a good appointment. His contract is up then and Cane will be hitting 10 years at pro level. We can cross our fingers he can extend beyond that.
I've seen a few comments about "when was the last time we had a skipper who was not the best at their position?". With provincial blinkers removed I'd say every skipper outside of Fitzy and McCaw at least had a very worthy challenger for their spot at some stage in their tenure.

Pleased with this.
Does the hard yards, never gives up and we always seem to play that little bit better when he's on the field.
And he has that look in his eye when the going gets tough - a more determined, different look to Read's wild-eyed expression when things aren't going well.

Should have started in Yokohama. Still can't believe it....

So does the leadership group ever get formally announced?
If it’s another 5 then I’d go with: Coles, Patty T, Whitelock, TJ and Barrett B. Don’t they often have young guys in the group (Cane and McCaw were by all accounts IIRC, appointed early in their AB careers), so someone like Mounga could be there?

World rugby has put up full replay, which I hadn't seen before.
Watched first half. Ardie wasn't bad, but always just off at breakdown. A fit Sam may have affected a couple of turnovers, and would have been more effective covering for Ritchie M's tackling weakness, which lead to two of England's three best breaks.

His non-selection wasn't the dumbest thing we did on the field that day
Not by a long chalk.

I still think we gave England far too easy a ride in the first 5-10 minutes. Cane's physical presence would have blunted England's attack and stopped them getting on the front foot so early.

Joe Moody missed a lot of tackles that night. Probably his worst performance in a black jersey.
I guess you haven't heard about that day Joe put on a black v-neck and proceeded to accidentally run over his neighbours cat, dropped his lunch on the floor (carpet) on the way out to the deck and then to top it all off had a sloppy shit where half of it sprayed on that top ledge bit of the bowl. Bought an instant kiwi that was a dud too.
