That's some tough competition for the team award, although agree it should be AB's as Black Caps didn't win anything of note and rowing and sailing are in non-Olympic years

So gets the Supreme?

I would say AB's although hard to argue against Ko #1 and Major winner at her age

Must be the first time in a long time Val hasn't been a finalist?

I'd be surprised if the ABs didn't win in a successful RWC year, as they did in 2011.

The omission of Mary Fisher in the Disabled Sportsperson of the Year category is a real fuckup.

Remember though folks, the Halbergs aren't about winning rather they are about punching above weight and generating extra interest.

I can see the BC's winning although my money is on AB's

The Halbergs screwed it royally giving Lydia Ko the Supreme Award the other year. The judges essentially said that's standard to be the Supreme winner not realising Lydia will better that standard each year for another 15 years.

The only thing that trumps World Number Ones and Majors in the judges eyes is Olympic Golf and ironically Lydia will likely win gold this year too meaning she'll still be top dog when the next Halbergs roll 'round.

I said all that at the time and got shot down by the golf fans.
It wasn't the sport, it was that she was awarded through excitement about what might be rather than waiting for it to come.

Jesus, thats confidence. I think she has 10-15% chance maximum. Like any golfer currently ranked number 1.

Skybet is saying 3/1 or 25%. And that's probably still a little high.

Even worse! PNZ were talking to Fisher's family and coaches on the morning the nominations were sent to the Halberg Awards committee and still forgot to submit it.

another chapter of the Halbergs is kicking off, add in McCaws NZer of the Year award last night, I expect there will be plenty more punters unhappy after all these awards are handed out.

Not too fussed about the Halbergs but I'd be shocked if the All Blacks don't win the team award at the Laureus awards.

MArk Watson was having a bit of a rant on RS about 5.15pm and while he had some valid points, he also didnt provide any solutions to make the awards 'fairer' to the 'other' sports.

Mark Watson is only happy when he has something to whinge about. On that basis he'd make the perfect ferner.

I try to avoid listening to him TBH, too ranty and off-base more often than not IMO, not to mention how often he hangs up on people when thier opinions differ to his.

So All Blacks picked up supreme award in the end, Lydia pipped again but her time will come.

Awesome to see Kane get the award of DC. Kinda expected them to give it to DC given his final year but yeah great to see Kane (and cricket) getting the recognition it deserves.
