Good luck to Foster and his team, I for one am excited for 2020, we get to challenge the World Champs, play a new Wallabies side and see how this team rebounds from their failure in 2019.

The All Blacks were anaemic against the Lions in 2017 and were a shambles that got humiliated against England in the RWC Semi. Why on earth are NZR appointing to the top job, the Assistant Coach who was very much part of those two spectacular failures?

Is Cane more likely to be the captain now? Whitelock isn't playing SR so I am not sure it is right to pick him.

At least he's honest in our assessment of him

He also admitted he had a job now, as the head honcho, to "reinvent myself with the public and media" after eight years where his chief role was to complement the style of Steve Hansen. He said he hoped to be seen "in a new light", to be innovative and provide a sense of direction for the team.

And foreign assessment of him too (Lots of articles saying NZ made the right choice, for their teams)

"I'm extremely passionate about adding a new touch to it and to really grow and get some mana back on the field, which we feel we've lost a little bit."

Yes foster, your record as head coach sucks, prove us doubters wrong

*I know that I've got a bit to prove because people will say I never achieved anything with the Chiefs," he said.

"That was a while back. When I speak in the Waikato I introduce myself as the person who coached the Chiefs before they won anything*

    Meh

Worries if the current specialists are maintained :

    • Defence (McLeod) : porous, to say the least. I would have liked to see a specialist of the rush defence.
    • Kicking from hand (Hill) : was very poor. Is Hill the main culprit or is it because Barrett and Mo'unga don't know how to kick ?

According to 1 News his team has not been confirmed yet.

Moar, Feek, Plummer, McLeod are all speculation...

Cane is a better choice anyway. Whitelock is an excellent player but Cane seems like a proper hard bastard. It still beggars belief that he didn't start against the Poms in the SF

@taniwharugby I find Moaar a bit of a strange pick. He just started at Scarlets as head coach. I don't know for how long he has been appointed, but can't imagine he has an outclause in what is a contract for his first gig as head coach.

@Stargazer Moaar has previously coached Southland where he was shit like all their other coaches post-Culhane and Henderson.

I agree it does seem strange he would leave Wales so soon, if true.

@cgrant I don't think Hill had been involved with the ABs prior to the RWC, and that was only in a temporary role. He has mostly been involved with age group teams and the Blues in NZ. And he is now part of the Chiefs.

Harry Plummer is a busy young man. Hopefully not goal kicking coach...

@Dolamite we will see how true it is that 'anyone could coach the AB's' is that gets trotted out now and again.

Warren Gatland is getting some of his blows in early ahead of next year's Lions tour, saying "anyone" in New Zealand could coach the All Blacks to an 85 per cent winning record.

    https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11741478

Not many coaches have achieved 85%.

@Dolamite True, but they'll have a pretty weak squad next year.

Hansen had 86.9% (88.8 if you count draws as 50%)
    Henry 85.4% (no draws)
    Mitchell 82.1% (83.8%)
    Smith 70.6% (no draws)
    Hart 75.6% ( 77.8%)
