No he is just being what he is .. A Traveller. This is his beliefs and culture.

I lived in Ireland for 10 years his people are hated in Ireland and England

I worked in a nite club near galway and they would not let any Travellers in - sounds racist it is

They took me off the front door as I couldn't spot who was who but Irish people can tell a Traveller by the looks.. I could spot a traveller girl as they dressed with everything hanging out and with the biggest earings on earth from age 10.

The things Furey is saying is what he has been taught since birth, now he is World champ people are listening and taking offence, the lad doesn't know any other way.

They have a pretty tough life but don't help themselves by making $ by stealing and social welfare fraud - animal cruelty violence etc

Integration works both ways. Until travellers stop treating the education system as a kind of optional extra beyond the age of 12 the depressing cycle of ignorance and segregation continues.

Anyway back on topic - there are lots of boxers who come from travelling backgrounds, they don't spout the kind of crap Fury does.

your right there is many

Andy Lee is a world champ and his next fight is v a Traveller in Billy JO Saunders = bad blood

Schooling is an option few Travellers seem to take although I think that is improving- my son had 1 in his class he was a hardcase to say the least nice enough lad.

They are their own breed alright - actually trying to claim that so they can be classed as ethnic minority in Ireland.... benefits involved

Quite a few travellers have recently made it to Oxbridge- which is an amazing achievement. I get particularly pissed when so many gypsy kids follow the same pattern - great kids, then drop out of school, nightmare adults. It's such a waste.

Not just an Irish issue, loads where I was growing up in SE England and quite a few in my children's school in London. They all seem to follow to the same patern. Great kids that you love to bits, then they seem to lose it big time when they hit adolescence. By that time future options are narrowing rapidly.

Anyway Bilie Joe is a cracking fighter - hope that that travellers can continue to channel their fighting heritage into boxing and out of bare knuckles. That tradition of settling score is one of the main things holding them back from joining the 21st century in my humble opinion.

Not sure if a couple of name-suppression suits were followed in the mid 00s amongst some of our more tenured posters who support the ABs.

Meanwhile Parker goes to 17-0 , you wonder at what point do they look at stepping up his class of opponents .

But in saying that the way he is knocking guys out , fighters ranked higher than him will be doing their best to avoid him unless it involves a big purse .

and that, I gather, is the difficult part of the fight game.

Every top 10 fighter wants a shot at the title and will only take fights that consolidate their position or raise them to a mandatory challenge.

JP is probably ready to start taking these guys on now (although he hasn't fought a southpaw yet) but to get to that level he has exposed himself as a risky proposition.

I saw the Fury only fought something like 4 times in 3 years prior to his title bout. I guess once you at at a certain level the pickings are slim.

I thought his last fight (before this one) was against a Southpaw? Or maybe what I read/heard was how they are slowly evolving him with taller opposition and then to a Southpaw?

There was a series on TV here where they follow Gypsies through their trials and tribulations, to the elaborate weddings between 16 year olds and the problems that for some strange reason, follows them around...cringeworthy TV to be sure

Bergman will be the first southpaw Parker has fought.

As to JP's future, here's what Barry said:

"We have a number of top 10 fighters who we're negotiating with now and are going to put in front of Joseph," the trainer said. "We stood here last year and said what our goal was for this year: to be ranked by all the sanctioning bodies and in the top five by one.

"We've achieved that goal, and our goal for next year is to manoeuvre him and improve the skills of Joe to get him ready to win a mandatory position next year and put him in line for a world title shot."

So we wait and see who he'll fight in 2016.

I agree its hard to find opponents people will see as tests for JP

Actually alot thought Botha then Sherman were too big a steps back then- I thought Sherman would be a very tough fight but Jp has managed to handle them all.

I see Dereck Chisora had a win lately he would be a good test- I don't know many yankie fighters

The trouble is as said earlier no one inside top 10 wants to fight someone like JP - all risk and little reward

You have to hope he has convinced the likes of Furey and Wilder that he has a good record but only against bums so they agree to fight him.

Could take a long while to become mandatory when you have the likes of Povetkin - Haye returning etc

At 23 he has plenty of time ,

The big question with Joe for me , he may have had 17 fights but we still dont know what his chin is like ,

And that will be the interesting part, when he fights better opponents and he starts getting hit himself , and how well he handles that ,

All we have seen is one way traffic so far

That's certainly true for places in both countries where the travelling community make their temporary homes, often returning. Why? Well the old joke goes someway to explain - "What did the traveller kid get for Christmas? - Your bike".

Some friends of mine lived in Lingfield (racecourse town) and were visited annually by a large travelling community. Dog thefts went through the roof every year as did petty thefts. One year one local pub that welcomed them just got absolutely trashed the last night they stayed, another pub that refused them entry (helps to have a couple of Rhodesian Ridgebacks) had both dogs poisoned.

Do the people of Lingfield hate the travellers? Yes.

Those are the same sort of stories I hear every time the subject of travellers comes up. I worked with a guy in Australia who moved there to get away from his traveller family . Hearing the stories from his perspective was interesting , bloody stoked we don't have them and their associated fuckwittery here,

Wales' new youngster at tighthead prop - Samson Lee is from a "traveller family", actually lists ferreting as one of his hobbies ! 🙂

Catching rabbits by putting a ferret down the rabbit hole. I know people in NZ that do the same thing.

Mentioning to wife that a Traveller has become a heavyweight boxing champion and she says "you mean pikey". I say "I believe they prefer to be called travellers" and she stated that "they don't get to choose".
