I'm getting a Bastareaud vibe
Hmmm. I really don't get why anyone would make that up, but I don't have a victim mentality. Just bizarre really, and as has already been said - one dickhead.
Difference between making something up entirely and jumping to conclusions and firing out a tweet.
The bit that gets me is why he didn't mention it to his management to follow through on but publicly commented.
We don't even know what was supposedly said. Are we talking colour based racist talk or someone commenting on him being a West Indian import?
-
@Bovidae I think it was when he was heading off the pitch after getting out. So I can understand if it wasn't widely audible to other players.
My gripe was the going straight to twitter rather than their usual process (which I'm sure they have in place) of talking to management and going from there.

"In a previous tweet, subsequently deleted, Archer further outlined the nature of the abuse, posting: “Can the guy that was yelling bbc and bc from the scoreboard area today come forward and tell me what those words mean please? Because I don’t...”
I'm puzzled. Was someone shouting letters? If so how are they racist? (Kidding)
If they were the words he should have understood them and has a right to be offended if I think those letters are the start of what was said.He should also have understood them as being announced by a dickhead and get a thicker skin.

I hadn't seen that.
If someone was shouting 'You BC (or BBC)' then fair enough. It's pretty obvious what he meant (if directed at Archer)
BC also = Black Caps
'Black Caps' misheard?

One person out of thousands shouts 4 words and letters. Big deal.
Explain to anyone who doesn't understand why he's a dickhead and move on. That's the reason for the witch hunt isn't it? To deter others from judging on the basis of skin colour.
It's getting nearly more investigation than a labour party sex criminal.
Some perspective would be nice

How much limelight should this be given? I didn't realise there had to be an upper and lower limit of focus?

I'd like them to find the guy and slap a ban on him (2 -3 years) to send a message. I think Kane apologising on behalf of all New Zealanders is over-egging it a bit.

They are talking a potential life ban aren't they? I don't mind that our captain has apologised

Jeez, that's jumping in ahead of Jacinda. She will be annoyed about missing out on the press coverage of her being first in the queue to apologise.

As @Hooroo suggests it should be fully investigated, and and punished, or dismissed if untrue or a misunderstanding.
I'm just not convinced that a NZ crowd would stand around and allow that, thus I am cynical.
Can think of parallels but won't drag this further into a Politics forum rabbithole.

CDG and Boult out of Second Test
John Mitchell's son comes into the team with Ferguson

With regard to the racism issue - why is there an immediate assumption that the "attack" was by a Kiwi.
I find it entirely plausible that a pissed up Pom, disappointed at his side being trounced, decided to take it out on the Great White (sic) Hope of their bowling attack who had massively under-achieved.
If there was a racist taunt I am all in favour of a lifetime ban but I am disturbed that no one else has come forward to corroborate the story. Normally there's no shortage of posters on social media when these things emerge.

Really excited to see Ferg get a go in the test arena. He has a very good first class record in the longer form so no reason why he won't go well. He and Wags could be a very difficult combination to face.

@No-Quarter I'm a bit more cautious ( pessismistic from years of Heath Davis, Brendon Stirling, someone Drum dashed hopes) on young Locky. Admittedly i haven't seen him bowl a red ball, but raw pace alone doesn't bother elite batsmen without a run rate in play.
I'd be ecstatic for him to prove me wrong and it's up to him to forge a place, which is cool.
Won't be surprised to see Henry recalled with a specific role to play.
I'd like to be wrong though
