@Hooroo I realise what he said, but point is, surely he knew the AB role was coming up, and if he was keen, he wouldnt have gone balls deep in Aussie.

How would have he known they were going to ask him to apply given the incumbent looked to be Foster? He would have been a moron to just sit and hope?

Based on their actions, I think these other coaches realize they had little to no chance of getting the job

@Hooroo so you dont think he could have applied all on his own, knowing Hansen was stepping down? Or do they operate differently and only apply if shoulder tapped?

That goes back to my earlier point, did these guys think the job was a done deal, so have taken other options.

    @Chris-B Rennie the Roo?

If he beats us - the follow up headline could be "Roo-ted!"

Works even better if he hires Sir Graham as a consultant!

Sure he could have said I am available to coach and in the mean time looking elsewhere until I hear back?

It doesn't really work like that though

@Hooroo again comes back to how much he wanted to coach the ABs though doesnt it, we just assume he was dead keen...

Given he aint taking it this time round, could be a dozen or so more years before this chance comes around for him...given in all likelyhood he will be renegotiating an extension with Aus in 4 years, or looking for something else, I cant see him leaving Aus and walking into the ABs, which is why I plucked 12 years out...

I appreciate Aus were probably pressuring him to sign knowing themselves the AB job was coming up, but I am just saying, his supposed 'dream job' is coming up but he doesnt even apply...

Ugh. After the meh semi performance (and meh few years, TBH) I was excited at the thought of a coaching clean out. AB's have always been at their best when they lead with fresh and bold ideas, not trot out the same stale ones and let the rest of the world catch up. If it's gonna be Foster...UGH. He fucked the Chiefs so bad as head coach, apart from 2009, they were mediocre, and those last two years, such complete dogshit that even diehard Waikato fans were eager to see the back of him.

YEah I don't see what you're missing with that? Shoulder tapped by Aussie, went through the due process and months later gets shoulder tapped to apply for AB's but has already sussed another job.

So the best coaching options are now going to be plotting the AB's downfall.

not missing anything, I just think its odd if he knew the AB job was coming up, which I think pretty much everyone did since Hansen said he was resigning post RWC, that if it was the 'pinnacle' of coaching jobs for a Kiwi, then why wouldnt he actually apply.

I appreciate he cant sit about waiting for the call that might not come, but def wont get the job you dont apply for!

Not going to matter the next couple of years who you pick, I suppose it might as well be Razor.

Rennie seems like a good bloke. I hope he can deal with the political bullshit and deliver us some results.

I guess another factor is Rennie will see out his contract with Glasgow, NZR may not have been happy with that idea

I hope he improves it enough to regularly beat all the NH teams, have 50/50 with the Boks, lose every match to the ABs including a close fought RWC final.

Hansen and Fozzie clearly show that do as I say not as I do when it comes to food consumption is no barrier to coaching the ABs. Plus, with Piri there the props will have less opportunity to over indulge as he'll hog all the kai.
